Abstract
Sealing means for doors, comprising a resilient list rotatably mounted on the door and pivotable by contact of a journal with the door frame, from horizontal to sealing position against the doorsill, by axial motion of a control member against a spring force and in co-operation with a stationary inclined surface. The journal is surrounded by the helical spring and disposed in a sleeve-shaped member which is provided with the inclined surface, and the said journal has a projection extending beyond the peripheral surface of the sleeve and sliding in an axial groove in a mounting member secured to the door.

INVENTOR E ie gash #216 lA kf/vx BY A ATTORNEYS SEALING MEANS FOR DOORS The invention relates to a sealing means for doors, particularly doors without doorsills, .where a sealing strip of resilient material such as rubber, plastic or felt is secured to a holder which is rotatably mounted on the door substantially along the entire width of the door panel, so that the strip may be pivoted from an approximately horizontal position to a position in which the free side edge of the strip is in sealing relation against the floor or doorsill, and where the holder at the end facing towards the hinge side of the door frame is provided with a journal which, on contact with the frame when the door is closed, is displaced in axial direction of the holder by spring force, so that a control member co-operating with an inclined surface, which is stationary in relation to thedoor panel, pivots the holder.
Such a means is known from Norwegian Patent No. 104,265. A disadvantage of this known means is that it can not give complete sealing as the holder, which has a through shaft mounted intwo mounting loops secured to the underside of the door, must be provided with recesses for the mounting loops, which are wider than the said loops in order to permit axial displacement of the holder. A slot-shaped opening is formed on one side of both mounting loops therefore. Furthermore, a slotshaped opening is formed in one end edge of the strip due to the axial displacement, if an accurate and thereby expensive adjustment operation is not undertaken during mounting.
The object of the invention is to provide an improved sealing means which does not have the above said disadvantage, and, at the same time, is less expensive to produce and simpler to mount.
ln accordance with the invention this is achieved in that the journal is surrounded by a helical spring and disposed for the greater part of its length within a sleeve-shaped member which is rigidly connected to the holder and has substantially the same cross sectional configuration and is provided with a stop for the spring, the said sleeve member being provided in its peripheral wall with a recess having an inclined surface for engagement with a part of the control member of the journal, the other end of said control member projecting beyond the peripheral surface of the sleeve member and being axially displaceable in a groove in the mounting member of the holder, the said member being secured to the underside of the door panel. In this manner, it is only the journal which is axially displaced and the holder is merely subjected to a pivotal movement, so that the sealing may be complete.
This means has also the advantage that the long shaft of the known embodiment is no longer necessary. Mounting and possible cutting is then extremely simple.
Advantageously, the recess may be a slot in form of a part of a helical line, and the inner portion of the control member has then a shape which fits into the slot and bears, with slide fit, against one of the two opposing sidewalls of the slot, the other part of the control member having two parallel sides in parallel with the axis of the journal and bearing, with slide tit, against two opposing side walls of the groove in the mounting member. In this manner, greater contact surface is obtained for the control mechanism which also reduces the wear and tear. It is possible to provide more slots and more control members in order to increase this effeet.
The free end of the journal is preferably provided with an axial bore wherein a regulating screw is adjustable, optionally with intermediate layer of a sleeve of plastic material, for example, nylon.
An embodiment example of the sealing means ac cording to the invention is further described in the following with reference to the drawings.

The sealing means according to the embodiment example consists of a mounting member 2 in the form of a metal profile which extends along the entire width of the door panel 1. The mounting member is manufactured in continuous lengthand is cut to fit the dimension of the individual door. The mounting member is provided with a foot portion for engagement against, and securement to, the underside of the door panel, and a sleeve-shaped member where the wallis missing over approximately 120 of the periphery. Further, one side is provided with an axial groove 13. In the said sleeve member, a holder 3 is inserted which is also formed of a metal profile having a tube-shaped member and two projecting gripping flanges which, between them, receive a thicker portion of the sealing strip 15. The holder 3 may thereby be rotated about in the sleeve member. At the end facing the hinge side of the door frame, the holder is provided with a sleeve member 5 which is rigidly connected to the holder 3 and has substantially the same cross sectional configuration as the said holder. The holder 3 and sleeve member 5 together constitute a holding means for strip 15. The sleeve member 5 receives a journal 7 which is surrounded by a helical spring 6 and disposed for the greater part of its length within the sleeve member 5 which is provided with a stop for the spring 6. The sleeve member 5 is further provided in the peripheral wall thereof with a slot 14 in the form of part of a'helical line. In the slot 14, a part 11 of the journal 7 is arranged which part may be of a shape which fits into the slot and engages, with a sliding fit, against a part of the opposing side walls of the slot 14. The second and outer part 12 on the journal 7 has two parallel sides which are in parallel with the axis of the journal and bear, with a sliding fit, against two opposing side walls of the groove 13 in one end of the mounting member. The free end of the journal 7 is provided with an axial bore which receives a sleeve 8 of, for example, nylon and a regulating screw 9 is screwed into the sleeve for adjustment of the engagement with the door frame. When the head of the screw 9, on closing the door comes into contact with the door frame, the journal 7 is axially displaced against the force of the spring 6 due to the fact that the outer portion 12 of the journal 7 extends in the axial groove 13 in the mounting member 2, the sleeve member 5 at the outer end there being provided with a collar 16 which, with an optional intermediate layer 4 of plastic material, prevents axial displacement of the sleeve member 5 and thereby the holder 3 in the mounting member 2. On axial displacement of the journal 7, the inner portion 11 of the control member will exert a pressure on the wall in the helical groove 14 so that the sleeve member and thereby the holder and the sealing strip 15, are pivoted to scaling position where the free side edge of the sealing strip 15 is in con tact with the floor or doorsill. 1
Having described my invention, 1 claim:
1. Sealing means for doors hung at one side on hinges, comprising holding means, means rotatably mounting the holding means on the door along substan tially the entire width of the door from the hinged edge of the door to the free edge of the door, a resilient sealing strip carried by the holding means for pivotal movement to and from a position in which the strip is in sealing relationship with structure adjacent the door, the holding means having at its end adjacent the hinged edge of the door a journal mounted for axial movement in the holding means, a helical spring surrounding the journal and urging the journal out of the holding means, said holding means having in its peripheral wall a helical slot, a portion of said journal projecting beyond the peripheral surface of the journal and being slidable in said helical slot, said mounting means having a groove extending lengthwise thereof, said projecting portion extending through said helical slot and into said groove so that when the door is closed, the journal will contact stationary structure adjacent the door to move the journal against the action of the spring to rotate the holding means into a position in which the sealing strip seals against structure adjacent the door.
2. Sealing means as claimedin claim 1, the free end of the journal having an axial bore, and a regulating screw adjustably disposed in said bore for adjustment of the position of said sealing strip.

Claims (2)
1. Sealing means for doors hung at one side on hinges, comprising holding means, means rotatably mounting the holding means on the door along substantially the entire width of the door from the hinged edge of the door to the free edge of the door, a resilient sealing strip carried by the holding means for pivotal movement to and from a position in which the strip is in sealing relationship with structure adjacent the door, the holding means having at its end adjacent the hinged edge of the door a journal mounted for axial movement in the holding means, a helical spring surrounding the journal and urging the journal out of the holding means, said holding means having in its peripheral wall a helical slot, a portion of said journal projecting beyond the peripheral surface of the journal and being slidable in said helical slot, said mounting means having a groove extending lengthwise thereof, said projecting portion extending through said helical slot and into said groove so that when the door is closed, the journal will contact stationary structure adjacent the door to move the journal against the action of the spring to rotate the holding means into a position in which the sealing strip seals against structure adjacent the door.
2. Sealing means as claimed in claim 1, the free end of the journal having an axial bore, and a regulating screw adjustably disposed in said bore for adjustment of the position of said sealing strip.
