Primary Examiner-Louis G. Mancene Assistant Examiner-Gregory E. McNeill [57] ABSTRACT v A carrying case for containing hair dressing equipment such as shampoo bottles, spray nets and the like, the carrying case being divided into a plurality of compartments for readily and quickly locating all objects placed therewithin.
1 Claim, 2 Drawing Figures More specifically it relates to cosmetic make-up travel cases. i
A principal object of the present invention is to provide a carrying case for containing shampoos, spray nets, rollers for the hair, capes, setting lotions and the like.
Another object of thepresent invention is to provide a carrying case which can be readily used by a beautician or otherperson calling upon a sick patron requiring beauty services.
Still another object of the present invention is to provide a carrying case whichmay include a lift-out tray so as" to provide ready access to a lower tray therewithin.
Yet a further object is to provide a carrying case including a a plurality of compartments and wherein the dividing walls between certain of the compartments are removable so that the dividing of the compartments provides relatively large space i for specifically larger items to be used by the beautician.
Other objects of the present invention are to provide a styling valet which is simple in design, inexpensive to manufacture, rugged in construction, easy to use and efficient in operation.
These and other objects will be readily evident upon a study of the following specification together with the accompanying drawing wherein:
FIG. I is a perspective view of the present invention;
FIG. 2 is an enlarged fragmentary perspective view showing the components of the device, and illustrated separated;
FIG. 3 is a fragmentary plan view of the interior of the case showing a modified design thereof;
FIG. 4 is a cross-sectional view taken on the line 4- 4 of FIG. 3;
FIG. 5 is a fragmentary perspective view of a self-adjustable partition illustrated in FIGS. 3 and 4;and
FIG. 6 is a side crossl-sectional view of a further modified design of the invention taken on line 6-6 of FIG. 7. wherein the principles of a self-adjustable partition illustrated in FIGS. 3 through 5 is incorporated into a case having access from opposite sides so to form adjustable compartments from each side.
FIG. 7 is a perspective view of the invention, showing a composite of the features illustrated in FIGS. 3 through 6.
Referring now to the drawing in detail, and more particularly to FIGS. 1 and 2 at this time, the reference numeral 10 represents a styling valet, according to the present invention, wherein there is a carrying case 11 comprised of a case 12 and a cover 13 hingedly secured together by means of a hinge 14 of a type illustrated in FIG. 2, wherein the hinge components are readily disengagable from each other so that the case and cover may be used each as an individual tray.
The case 12 is of generally rectangular configuration and includes a rectangular panel 15 bounded by opposite side walls 16, and top and bottom walls 17 and 18 respectively. A plurality of compartments 19 are formed within the case by means of various partitions 20. Covers 21 may be provided for individually enclosing certain of the compartments 19.
As shown in FIG. 1, two of the partitions 22 are removable so as to convert the compartments 23 selectively into a larger compartment for containing larger items conveniently. The cover 13 is likewise comprised of a flat rectangular panel bounded by opposite side walls 25 and opposite top and bottom walls26and 27 respectively. A rectangular mirror 24 is secured to the bottom side of the panel which can be used for make-' up when the cover is opened from the case. The cover is likewise divided into a tray or framework'of partitions 28 into a plurality of compartments 29 and which may be readily snapped out from the lid or cover, thus allowing use of the mirror.
It is to be noted that the styling valet may be made waterproof and weather proof, in view that it will be carried out of doors to a customers residence. a It will be further noted that the compartmentsof the case and cover are of various assorted sizes so that they may contain various and different shaped and sized ob jects such as beauticians instruments, bottles of lotions, shampoos and the like. t
The lock 30 operated by a key 31 is attached to th carrying case, thus allowing securement of the case and cover together. A carrying handle 32 is secured to the carrying case.
Referring now to FIGS. 3 to 5, there is shown a modified design of styling valet 33 wherein the partitions 34 can be moved a short distance toward either side as indicated by the arrows 35 so that the compart ments 36 can be made relatively larger or smaller and thus permit larger or smaller objects placed into the compartments more snugly and without the necessity of removing any partitions such as is described above. In this construction, the partition 34 is made of substantially thick material so that it is stiff. However, all the edges of the partition where it. joins with the bottom wall 37 and side walls 38 of the case are integral with an accordian pleated section 39 and which is made of relatively thinner material so that the partition can be sidewardly flexed. It is accordingly suggested that the case and partition, together with the accordion section be molded entirely of plastic material if an inexpensive production is desired.
Thus a quick and easy method is provided for changing the sizeof a compartment so as to quickly and easily' receive a larger item than would be normally possible without first removing the partition.
Referring now to FIG. 6 of the drawing, there is shown a styling valet 40 which incorporates the principles of the self-adjusting partition, described in FIGS. 3 to 5. Y
The styling valet 40 includes a rectangular frame 41 and which is provided with a cover 42 on one side and a cover 43 on the other side, the covers being attached to the intermediate rectangular frame by means of hinges 44.
The rectangular frame 41 is provided with a plurality of compartments 45 which are normally closed by the cover 42, and the frame 41 further includes compartments 46 located alternately between the compartments 45 and which can be closed by means of the cover 43. The compartments 45 and 46 are separated from each other by means of partitions 47 which are sidewardly self-adjustable by means of corrugations 39 as above described so that the compartments on opposite sides are readily adjustable in size. Each of the compartments includes a fixed bottom wall 48 integral with the frame 41. Thus there is shown a further modified form of the invention.
Thus when the beautician travels to wait upon a sick patient or other person confined to bed at home or in a hospital, the beautician has all the equipment necessary for performing her work.
' Whatlnow claim is:
1. In a styling velet, the combination of a case and cover, said cover being hingedly secured to said case, and said case and cover being separated from each other so as to present separable trays, said case and cover each comprising a rectangular, member having a rectangular panel bounded by opposite side walls, op-
} posite end walls and a plurality of partitions so as to form a plurality of compartments of various sizes so as to accommodate different type of equipment used by beauticians in their work, certain of said partitions of said case being removable so to form relatively larger size compartments, cover means being provided for individually enclosing certain of said compartments, a pair of hinges for pivotally securing said case to said cover, each of said hinges being comprised of interfitting members disengageable from each other so to separate said case and cover, said cover carrying a mirror, and a brace between said cover and case for limiting the pivotal travel respective to each other, certain of said partitions being integral with an accordian pleat structure around the edges therebetween and said case so to permit sideward displacement of said partition in a flat plane so to form relatively larger or smaller compartments, wherein said partitions remain flat in either position, said case having alternate compartments being accessible from an opposite side, said compartments being formed by an alternately oppositely dished intermediate common wall formed by said sidewardly movable partitions and altemate' opposite bottom walls, said case accordingly having a pivotal bottom cover for access to alternate of said compartments, and said partitions having said integral accordian pleat structure each being comprised of a stiff panel having said accordian pleats around such edges thereof that are toward said bottom wall and side wall of said case, said accordian pleats being flexible and of a thinner material than said stiff panel.
