UNITED STATES PATENT @rrrcn.
ANDREXV J. NICHOLS, OF OZARK, ARKANSAS.
DRY-GOODS EXHIBITOR.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 369.464, dated September 6, 1887.
Application filed April 13, 1867.
To all 111710722, it may concern.
Be itknown that I, AnnnnwJ. Nrcnors, of Ozark, in the county of Franklin and State of Arkansas, have invented a new and Improved Dry-Goods Exhibitor, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
My invention has for its object to providea simple and convenient device for holding oilcloth, dressgoods, and other fabrics, so that they will be protected from injury, while a sample of each may be displayed.
The invention consists in certain novel features of construction and combinations of parts, as hereinafter fully described, and defined by the claims.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming a partof this specification, in which similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the figures.
Figure 1 is a vertical section of my improved dry-goods exhibitor. Fig. 2 isaside elevation of the same. Fig. 3 is afront elevation. Fig. is a detail sectional view showing one of the carrying-rollers and its bearings. Figs. 5, 6, and 7 are detail views of the varionsbearings used for the carricr-rollcrs.
The case of the exhibitor is formed of the sides A A, the top B, the back 0, and the ornamental front piece, D, the sides being connected at the bottom by a cross-bar, E.
In the sides A A, near the front edges of the same, are journaled a vertical series of guide-rollers, F, at equal distances apart, and
directly above the lower roller F is arranged a pressureroller, G, which is held yieldingly against the same by means of springs H (only one shown) acting on the bearings 01 said roller G.
At the rear and in the plane of each guideroller F is arranged asquare carrier-roller, K, on which the goods are rolled, the carrier-rollers being arranged alternately in vertical series near the front and the back of the case, respectively, so that the goods on adjacent rollers will not interfere with each other.
Between the several members of the rear series of carrier'rollers K andthe corresponding front guide-rollers F are journaled a series of secondary guide-rollers, I, over which the goods pass from the said carrier-rollers to the front guide-rollers F so as to be held out Serial No.23-L605. (No model.)
of the way of the goods on the front series of carrier-rollers when the same are full.
The carrier-rollers K are journaled to the side A of the case in bearings L, held therein,
and to the side A in bearings M, and are prosertion of the squared extensions Nwheti pntting the parts together.
The squared extensions N are adapted to receive the removable socketed crank-handle P, in order that the carrier-rollers K may be turned for winding the goods thereon.
The goods on the several carrier-rollers can be fully displayed by letting their free ends hang over their respective guidc-rollers F, as indicated in dotted lines in Fig. 1, and can be readily drawn out over said rollers for cutting, measuring, &c.
In rewinding the goods on their rollers K, they are passed between thelowerguide-roller F and the pressure-roller G, to which they are guided between brackets Q, projecting at the bottom from each side A A of the case and parallel therewith, -and are thus wound smoothly and evenly on the earrier rollers.
A down wardlyswinging door, 0, is arranged in and extending across the back G of the case, by which easy access is gained to the interior of the ease.
When it is desired to remove all the goods from any of the carrier-rollers K, such goods are wound directly therefrom upon a secondary carrier-roller, K, arranged across theback of the case, as indicated in dotted lines in Fig. 1.
The roller K is jonrnaled in slotted bearings Q, fixed to the sides of the case, at the rear edges of the same, said slots leading at an upward incline to said rear edges at the sides of the opening in the back, so that when the door closing said opening is swung down and the goods wound on the secondary carrier-roller the same may be removed or replaced at will.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. An exhibitor comprising a case, the guiderollers F, arranged at the front of the case, the carrier-rollers K, journaled in the case in the plane of the guide-rollers and arranged alternately in vertical rows near the front and back of the case, and the secondary guide-rollers I, between the rows of guide-rollers, substantially as herein shown and described.
2. In an exhibitor, the combination of a case, a series of guide-rollers in front of the same, carrier-rollers in rear of the guide-rollers, and a yielding pressure-roller, G, arranged above the lower guide-roller, substantially as herein shown and described, whereby provision is made for winding the goods on the carrierrollers smoothly and evenly, as set forth.
3. In an exhibitor, the combination, with the case having an opening in its back and a series of guide and carrier rollers journaled in the case, of a secondary carrierroller, K, journaled in the rear of the case, substantially as herein shown and described.
4. In an exhibitor, the combination, with the case having an opening extending across its back and the series of guide and carrier rollers in the case, of a secondary carrier-roller journaled across the back of the case, at the opening thereon, and, the bearings of said secondary carrier roller having inclined slots opening at the rear edges of the sides of the case, substantially as shown and described.
5. In an exhibitor, the combination, with the case and the guide and carrier rollers journaled transversely therein, of parallel guide-brackets projecting from the front edges of the sides of the case, substantially as shown and described.
