SILAS E. RATEKIN, OF KANSAS CITY, MISSOURI.
WIRE-CLOTH-DELIVERING REEL.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 369,126, dated August 30, 1887,
Application filed September 22, 1886. Serial No. 214,249. (No model.)
To all whom it nzag concern.
Be it known that I, SILAS E. RATEKIN, of Kansas City, in the county of Jackson and State of Missouri, have invented a new and Improved Reel, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the annexed drawings, forming a part thereof, in which- Figure l is a perspective view of my improved reel, and Figs. 2 and 3 are respectively vertical and transverse sections of the middle portion of the standard of the reel.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the views.
The object of my invention is to provide a reel for containing rolls of wire-cloth and other fabrics and supporting the rolls in a vertical position for exhibition, the roll-holder being arranged to be turned downinto a horizontal position when it is desired to remove some of the fabric from the roll.
I inafter described and claimed.
The post A is provided at or near the center thereof with arectangular portion, B, and
is fitted to turn at its lower end in a step, 0. The upper end of the post is bored axially to receive the rounded end-of the rod D, the upper end of the said rod being squared and fitted to a socket, E, attached to the ceiling or other convenient support. The squared portion B of the post A is bored at right angles with each of its faces to receive the eyebolts a a a at. The eyes of the eyebolts are provided with thumb-screws b, for clamping the roll-holders F in any desired position.
Each roll-holder F consists of a rod of round iron bent twice at right angles, forming near opposite ends arms 0 a, which project in the same direction and parallel with each other. These arms '0 a are provided with eyes d d in the ends thereof for receiving the rod G, and the eye d is provided with a thumb-screw, e, for holding the rod in place. Each rod G is provided with an ornamental head, f, which prevents it from slipping through the eye (1, and also gives the roll holder a finished appearance.
To the back of the roll-holder F is secured a guard, H, made of a rod bent twice at right angles near its end, forming the arms 3 which are curved to conform to the shape of the roll placed on the rod G, and are inserted in holes in the back of the roll-holder F and riveted. Upon each of the rods G of the reel is placed a roll of wire-cloth or other fabric, and when the roll is to be exhibited the roll-holder F is placed in a vertical position; but when it is desired to unroll some of the fabric from the roll the roll-holder F is turned down into a horizontalposition, as shown at the front of Fig. 1, the eyebolt a forming the pivotal support upon which the roll-holder is turned. The guard H'holds the fabric so that it does not unwind itself. 7
I have represented my improved reel as being placed upon a counter, I, and I have shown the rod D supported at its upper end by a socket, E, secured to the ceiling; but I do not limit or confine myself to this arrangement.
It is obvious that the central portion of the post Amayhavea greater number of sides than I have represented, and that a correspondingly increased number of roll-holders F may be connected with the post.
Having thus fully described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent-- 4 1. In a reel for rolls of wire-cloth and other fabrics, the combination, with a vertical post, of a vertical rollholder and ahorizontal pivot connecting said holder to the post, whereby the holder may be swung from a vertical to a horizontal position when the fabric is to be unwound, substantially as set forth.
2. The combination, with a vertical post pivoted to turn horizontally, of a series of vertical roll-holders and horizontal pivots connecting the said holders to the post, whereby the post may be rotated to show the several roll-holders, and the holders turned to a horizontal position when the fabric is to be unrolled, substantially as set forth.
3. The combination, with the vertical horizontally-revoluble post having a rectangular IOO in the step 0 and axially bored in the upper end thereof, the rod D, fitted to the bore of the post, the socket E, adapted to hold the rod D, the eyebolts a a a a, received in holes in the 5 post A, and the roll-holders F, provided with arms 0 0, eyes d d, and the rod G, substantially as described.
5. The combination of the post A, journaled in the step 0 and axially bored in the upper IO end thereof, the rod D, fitted to the bore of the post, the socket E, adapted to hold the rod D, the eyebolts a a a a, received in holes in the post A, the roll-holder F, provided with arms a 0', eyes (i d, the rod G, and the guard H, substantially as described.
