A fluorescent lighting fixture is integrally connected to a radiant heating panel assembly which includes a reflector and the entire assembly is adapted to be mounted on a wall of a room adjacent the ceiling thereof to provide indirect lighting and radiant heating for the room. The unit is modular so that a plurality of units may be connected in series.
3 Claims, 2 Drawing Figures PATENTED M1829 I972 INVENTOR. ANTHONY J. GOVERNALE lar.
Another object of the invention is to provide a new and improved combination heating and lighting fixture for cove mounting in a room wherein said heating panel is mounted on a reflector member which reflects radiant heat back to said panel from its inner surface and which reflects light from said lighting fixture onto the ceiling.
Another object of the invention is to provide a new and improved combination heating and lighting fixture for cove mounting in a room comprising a fluorescent lighting fixture, a radiant energy heating plate, a reflector connected to and behind said radiant energy heating plate, means to mount said reflector to said fluorescent lighting fixture, said mounting being adapted to be mounted on a wall adjacent to the ceiling of a room.
These and other objects of the invention will be apparent from the following specification and drawings, of which:
FIG. 1 is a perspective view of the embodiment of the invention.
FIG. 2 is a detail end view of the embodiment of FIG. 1, with the end cover removed.
Referring to the figures, the invention generally comprises a fluorescent light 1 mounted in a conventional fluorescent lighting fixture 2. The fixture 2 is mounted in a mounting bracket 3.
The radiant energy heating assembly comprises a radiant energy heating plate 4 which is heated by an electrical heater 5, which is mounted in a groove 6 in a boss 7, which is connected to the heating plate 4. The heating plate assembly including the boss is preferably an extruded member, for instance, of aluminum. The heating plate is preferably covered with a vitreous decorative surface 4'.
The heating panel is mounted by a reflector member 10 which has an irregular crossectional shape and which is spaced from the heating panel 4. The shape of the reflector 10 is chosen to hold the heating plate 4 at an angle to the vertical wall. The reflector l0 reflects radiant energy back to the heating panel 4 to enhance the radiation of the heating panel 4 into the room. The reflector 10 reflects the radiant energy in a downward direction as shown by the arrows.
The reflector assembly is mounted on a bracket 11, which is bolted or otherwise connected to the bracket 3. The bracket 3 contains an extension portion 3',
which is adapted to bear against the ceiling C when it is mounted on a wall W for the purpose of spacing the heating and lighting fixture from a ceiling.
The outside of the reflector 10 is adapted to reflect the light from the fluorescent tube 1 onto the ceiling to provide a desirable indirect ceiling lighting.
The assembly preferably has a decorative shroud member 12 which covers up the bolt B mounting and provides a pleasing appearance to the combination fixture, and a matching end cover 16. The clip 12' clamps the folded portion of shroud l2 and holds the shroud l2inc tactwith laeass bl 4.
e il r iit is pref rably ma e iii modular lengths, for
instance, four or 6 feet long, so that two or more of the units may be mounted together, depending upon the size of the room.
The combined unit is easily mounted to a wall by means of nails or screws 14 and 15, or by other conventional mounting means.
Therefore, the invention provides a combination room heating and lighting fixture which is easy to install and which eliminates a great deal of work in installing separate heating and lighting fixtures in a room.
What is claimed is:
1. A combination heating and lighting fixture for cove mounting in a room comprising,
a fluorescent lighting fixture,
a radiant energy heating plate,
a reflector connected to and behind said radiant energy heating plate, and being inclined so that one side of said reflector reflects energy from said plate downwardly means to mount said reflector to said fluorescent light fixture at such an angle that the other side of said reflector reflects the light from said fixture onto the ceiling of the room,
said mounting being adapted to be mounted on a wall adjacent to the ceiling of a room,
wherein said reflector has a crossectional shape such as to mount said heating plate at an angle to a vertical wall whereby the radiation of heat from said heating plate enhances the radiant energy downwardly into the room.
2. Apparatus as in claim 1 having a cover member connecting the bottom of said radiant energy plate to the bottom of said mounting means.
3. Apparatus as in claim 1 wherein said mounting means includes means to space said lighting fixture and heating plate from the ceiling and the wall.
Claims (3)
1. A combination heating and lighting fixture for cove mounting in a room comprising, a fluorescent lighting fixture, a radiant energy heating plate, a reflector connected to and behind said radiant energy heating plate, and being inclined so that one side of said reflector reflects energy from said plate downwardly means to mount said reflector to said fluorescent light fixture at such an angle that the other side of said reflector reflects the light from said fixture onto the ceiling of the room, said mounting being adapted to be mounted on a wall adjacent to the ceiling of a room, wherein said reflector has a crossectional shape such as to mount said heating plate at an angle to a vertical wall whereby the radiation of heat from said heating plate enhances the radiant energy downwardly into the room.
2. Apparatus as in claim 1 having a cover member connecting the bottom of said radiant energy plate to the bottom of said mounting means.
3. Apparatus as in claim 1 wherein said mounting means includes means to space said lighting fixture and heating plate from the ceiling and the wall.
