SHEET 2 BF 2 INVENTOR.
IO 7 E/ SHELDON HIWALDRON ATTORNEYS FIXTURE FOR HANGING DRAPES BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION It is well known that window and door draperies normally require installations in which the drapes are mounted on substantially heavy supporting brackets, rods or other structures, and the latter are bolted or nailed to the window or door frames. This construction is time-consuming and the proper securing of the drapes, especially pleated drapes, to supporting structures requires a great deal of time and effort. Moreover, the use of a professional to build the supporting structure and mount the drapes thereon is often required.
It is an object of the present invention to provide a fixture for hanging drapes that can be easily and rapidly mounted on a window or door frame, or on a wall, and through which the drapery fabric can be simply folded over in a manner to form a drapery corner installation.
It is another object of the present invention to provide a fixture for hanging drapes that is light in weight, portable and which is completely hidden from view when properly draped.
It is a further object of the present invention to provide a fixture for hanging drapes in which a selected decorative unit may be optionally secured on a marginal edge thereof in order to enhance the beauty of the drapes.
Another object of the present invention is to..provide a fixture for hanging drapes which is inexpensive to fabricate and that can be easily made for the right hand or the left hand corner of a window or door frame.
The invention will now be further described by reference to a specific embodiment thereof as illustrated in the drawings, in which:
FIG. 1 is a perspective view of the fixture for hanging drapes constructed in accordance with the teachings of the present invention;
FIG. 2 is a front elevational view of another embodiment of the present invention; and
FIG. 3 is a sectional view of the fixture taken along the lines 33 of FIG. 2;
FIG. 4 is a front elevation view of another embodiment of the present invention; and
FIG. 5 is a sectional view of the fixture taken along the lines 55 of FIG. 4.
The device for hanging drapes 10, especially pleated drapes, is shown in FIGS. l-3 of the drawings. The device comprises a generally triangular-shaped fixture 12 having elongated slots 14 and 16 and, preferably, but not necessarily, an additional elongated slot 18. The slots are sinuous in configuration, thereby forming staggered tongues 20a, 20b, and 20c respectively, projecting into the adjacent slots. The interior of the fixture has a formed plate-like support member 21.
A pair of spaced brackets 22 are preferably integrally attached to the fixture l2 and projecting rearwardly. Each bracket 22 is provided with an offset flange 24 having a keyhole slot 26 therein. The brackets 24 are additionally provided with gusset members 27. Also secured to the fixture 12 is a brace 28 projecting rearwardly the same distance as brackets 24 and provided with an offset support leg 30.
Each fixture'l2 is preferably mounted in opposite, upper corners of a window or a door. In addition, the fixture may be mounted selectively on a straight wall surface. The mounting is accomplished by inserting screws 32, or the like, in the keyhole slots 26, and securing the same to a window frame F.
As seen in FIG. 2, the drapes 10 can be installed on fixture 12 by passing the end thereof underneath the fixture and through the slot 14. The drape is then pulled over support member 21 and down through slot 16. The fabric end of the drape is thereafter passed under support member 21 and pulled to the right as seen in FIG. 2 of the drawings. The drape 10 is then pulled around the outer edge 34 of the fixture 12 and passed over the exposed face of the fixture l2 completely covering the fixture, as clearly seen in FIG. 3 of the drawings.
It should be apparent that the fixture 12 is slightly altered in construction for the left hand side of the draperymounting.
FIGSQ'4and5 are views showing a slight modification of the present invention illustrated in FIGS. l-3 in which like parts bear like reference numerals. The essential difference in FIGS. 4 and 5 from the structure shown in FIGS. l-3 is the use of mounting holes 36 for affixing a decorative element thereto. As seen in FIG. 4 the drape l0 ispassed through the slot 18 and drawn over the support member 21 in the left hand direction. This is clearly seen in both FIGS. 4 and 5 of the drawingsQIt should be noted that the drapery hanging of FIGS. l-3 completelyhides the mounting fixture while the drapery hanging of FIGS. 4 and 5 hides the mounting fixture with the exception of one edge 34 upon which a decorative element may be fixed.
It should be noted that any piece of fabric of suitable length which is hemmed on opposite ends may be made into'a drape by simply inserting the same through the fixture as'hereinbefore described. This may be accomplished without pleating, cutting, sewing, fitting or lining the cloth. Moreover, the fabric is undamaged by the fixture and may be repeatedly taken down and re-installed when desired.
What is claimed is:
l. A drapery hanging fixture comprising a relatively flat plate provided with a first slot extending substantially horizontally adjacent to one marginal edge of said plate, a second slot in said plate extending at an acute angle to said first slot and adjacent to another marginal edge of said plate; and at least a pair of brackets extending substantially perpendicular to said plate, for mounting said plate on a wall or frame, whereby said plate is mounted in spaced relationship to said wall or frame; said plate constituting means for drawing drapery fabric through said first slot and over the central portion of said plate through said second slot and for drawing behind said plate and folding over a side edge of said plate and for drawing laterally across said plate to form a drapery corner.
2. A drapery hanging fixture as claimed in claim 1 wherein said plate is'triangular-shaped.
3. A drapery hanging fixture as claimed in claim 1 further comprising a third slot adjacent said side edge of said plate whereby drapery fabric may be drawn therethrough and laterally across said plate.
4. A drapery hanging fixture as claimed in claim 3 further comprising mounting means between said third slot and said side edge for removably mounting a decorative item on said plate.
5. A drapery fixture comprising a plate which has a first slot extending along and adjacent to one edge of said plate, and a second slot extending at an acute angle to said first slot and adjacent to another edge of said plate; and mounting means extending from said plate, rearwardly thereto, for mounting said plate on a wall or frame and in spaced relationship thereto; whereby said plate constitutes means for drawing drapery fabric said plate has, in substance, 21 single additional edge, and has a third slot extending along and adjacent to said third edge.
