UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
VVILBUR FISK HUBBELL, OF IVAUSEON, OHIO.
CU LTIVATO R.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 367,982, dated August 9, 1887.
Application filed February 25, 1887. Serial No. 228,877. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, WILBUR FISK HUB- BELL, of Wauseon, in the county of Fulton and State of Ohio, have invented a new and Improved Cultivator, of which the following is a specification, reference being bad to the annexed drawings, forming a part thereof, in Which- Figure 1 is a side sectional elevation of my improved cultivator. Fig. 2 is an enlarged detail View of the end of the cultivator plowbeam. Fig. 3 is an end elevation, partly in I section, of the plow-beam and standards; and
Fig. 4 is a transverse section taken on line ac a; in Fig. 1, showing the foot-rest.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the views.
The object of my invention is to provide for cultivators a plow beam and standard which will support a number of plows in the position of use, and which may be readily adjusted so as to place the plows at different distances from each other, as may be required.
My invention consists in a tubular plowbeam, preferably formed of iron pipe, having a socket forged on its forward end and connected with an upwardly-bent arm and arranged to be drawn forward by a frame mounted on wheels in the usual way.
The axle A,whieh supports the plow-frame B, is upwardly bent or cranked, and is provided at opposite ends with supporting-wheels O. The plow-beam D, which receives the curved plowstandards E E E is formed of an iron or steel tube with an oblong socket, a, forged upon the forward end thereof for receiving the upwardly-bent bar F, which is connected with the frame B by means of an eyebolt or hook, b, projecting downward from the said frame and entering an eye, 0, formed in the end of the bar. The rear end of the beam D is provided with a collar, d, which prevents the standards E E E from slipping off from the beam.
The standards are provided at their upper ends with offsets cl, forming concave bearing surfaces prolonged beyond the faces of the standards and fitted to the tubular beam D, and are held in position on the beam by clips e,provided with threaded ends f, which extend through cross-bars 9, bearing on the tubular beam, and receive nuts by which the clips are tightened. By loosening the nuts on the clips the standard may be swung out or in, or it may be adjusted along the length of the beam.
From the frame 13, near the rear end thereof, is suspended a drivers seat, G, and to the forward standard, E is secured a right-angled bar, H, of metal, forming a foot-rest for the driver, one end of the said bar being supported by one of the threaded ends of the clip 6, the opposite end being connected by abolt, rivet, or hook withan car, 71, formed on the inner side of the standard E One or more of the tubular beams D, with their plow-standards E E E may be used in a single cultivator.
Having thus fully described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- 1. In a cultivator, the combination of the tubular beam D and the standards E E E provided with offsets d, and the clips 6, adapted to clamp the standards to the beam, substantially as described.
2. In a cultivator, the combination, with the tubular beam D, having a rectangular socket, to, on the forward end thereof, of the bar F and the standards E E E, substantially as described.
3.' In a cultivator, the combination of the tubular beam D, the standards E E E the bar F, the frame B, the axle A, and the seat G, substantially as described.
4. In a cultivator, the combination, with the forward plow'standard, E of the rightangled foot-rest bar H, substantially as described.
WILBUR FISK HUBBELL.
