Description

M. F. GARR.
SACK TIE.
N0. 367,785. Patented Aug. 9, 1887'.
v UNITED STATES PATENT A OFFICE.
MILLARD F. CARR, OF VHITESTOVVN, INDINA.
SACK-TIE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patentv No. 367,785, dated August 9, 1887.
Application filed January 22, 1887. Serial No. 225,228. (No model.)
To all whom, it may concern:
Beit known that I, MILLARD F. CARR, a citizen of the United States, residing at Whitestown, in the county of Boone and State of In! diana, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Sack-Ties, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to an improved device for closing and securing the mouth of a grainsack. v
The obj ect of my improvement is to provide a light metallic tying device which may be secured to a sack, so as to be always in readiness for use, and which may be quickly oper- U ated for securingor releasing the mouth of the sack, as hereinafter full y described.
The accompanying drawings illustrate my invention. f
Figure 1 represents a sack with` my tie attached and unfastcned. Fig. 2 is a perspective view of` the tie when open. Fig. 3 is a perspective view of the tie when closed but not secured. Fig. 4 is a plan view showing the tie secured.
rlhe body of my tie consists of a piece of wire bent to form a pair of arms, b and c, adapted to embrace the closed' mouth of the sack, an eye, (Z, hooks e and f, andan eycfh.
B is a link having an eye at each end, one of which eyes engages the eye ZL, and to the other is secured the bent lever Z. of sucient lengthv to embrace the closed month ofthe sack on three sides, and link B,
Arms I) and c arebe omitted and the stitches passed over the arms.
The operation of my device is as follows: The mouth of the sack having been drawn t0- gether within the arms b and c, the bight of lever Z is engaged with hook e, as shown in Fig. 8. The long arm 'of lever Z is now drawn toward the sack until the free end of the lever drops into hookf, thus drawing arms b and c toward each other and at the saine time throwing link B inward. The mouth of the sack is thus, with great ease to the operator, closely compressed and strongly secured.
I claim as my invention In a sack-tie, the single piece of wire bent to form the arms b and c, adapted to embrace the closed mouth of a sack on three sides, arm c terminating in therhook e, and arm b terminating in the eye Zi, and hook f, the link B, and the bent lever Z, all combined and arranged to cooperate to secure the mouth of a sack in the manner specified.
MILLARD F. CARR.
