Perry Attorney RAZOR BLADE ASSEMBLY BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION 1. Field of the Invention This invention relates to razor blades and is directed more particularly to a razor blade assembly, in which a blade is connected to a support member.
2. Description of the Prior Art Razors of the injector type are well known in the art and generally include a frame member and a blade seat member which receive and hold a blade therebetween. The blade is clamped between the frame and seat members in a rigid, stationary position.
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION It is an object of the invention to provide a blade assembly suitable for use in an injector razor and permitting the blade to exercise a degree of flexibility relative to the razor.
With the above and other objects in view, as will hereinafter appear, a feature of the present invention is the provision of a razor blade assembly comprising a blade, and support means connected to the blade and adapted to be received and retained by a razor head. The razor engages only the support means and the support means is structured to permit movement of the blade relative to the razor.
The invention is herein described in its application to injector type razors. While the invention is particularly applicable to such razors, it is to be understood that the invention is not limited in scope to razors of this type, but is applicable to single-edge razors generally.
The above and other features of the invention, including various novel details of construction and combinations of parts, will now be more particularly described with reference to the accompanying drawings and pointed out in the claims. It will be understood that the particular device embodying the invention is shown by way of illustration only and not as a limitation of the invention. The principles and features of this invention may be employed in various and numerous embodiments without departing from the scope ofthe invention.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS Reference is made to the accompanying drawings in which there is shown an illustrative embodiment of the invention from which its novel features and advantages will be apparent.

FIG. 6 is a sectional view, similar to FIG. 4, but showing the razor blade assembly clamped between portions of a razor head.
DESCRIPTION OF THE PREFERRED EMBODIMENT Referring to the drawings, it will be seen that the illustrative blade assembly includes a razor blade 2 having a cutting edge 4 and a slot 6. The assembly further includes a support member 8 which is preferably of a plastic material.
The support member 8 includes arm portions 10 having at their free ends tabs 12 (FIG. 3) which project through the slot 6 in the blade 2 and friction lock the support member to the blade. The arm portions 10 are movable relative to a base portion 14 of the support member 8. Thus, the blade 2 has a floating" capability in the support member 8. the degree of give depending upon the flexibility of the arm portions I0 of the support member.
Referring to FIG. 6, it will be seen that in use the base portion 14 of the support member 8 is clamped between the usual frame member 16 and blade seat member 18 of an in'ector type razor, the members I6 and 18 being rigid an permanently mounted. The frame and seat members I6, 18 of the razor engage only the support member 8, the blade 2 extending outwardly from therebetween, as shown in FIG. 6. The blade 2 is flexibly retained by the arm portions 10 which permit the blade to float" in the razor head, whereby to provide a generally softer, more comfortable shave.
It is to be understood that the present invention is by no means limited to the particular construction herein disclosed and/or shown in the drawings, but also comprises any modifications or equivalents within the scope of the disclosure. For example, various arrangements and configurations of the razor slot, and support member arms and tabs could accomplish essentially the same result.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States is:
l. Razor blade assembly comprising a razor blade having a cutting edge and a non-cutting edge and support means connected to said blade, said support means comprising a member having a base portion disposed about the non-cutting edge and flexible arm means integral with said base portion and extending therefrom generally parallel to said base portion, said arm means being separated from said base portion throughout a major portion of the length of said arm means to define an elongated space between said arm means and said base portion, said arm means being attached to said blade by tab and slot means on said arm means and blade, said blade being not otherwise attached to said support means, said flexible arm means being movable relative to said base portion whereby to permit movement of said blade relative to said base portion in substantially the plane of said blade.
2. Razor blade assembly comprising a razor blade having a cutting edge and a non-cutting edge and support means connected to said blade, said support means comprising a plastic member having a base portion disposed about the non-cutting edge and arm means integral with said base portion and extending therefrom, said arm means extending generally parallel to said base portion, tab means disposed proximate to a free end of said arm means and extending through opening means in said blade and secured therein, said arm means being separated from said base portion throughout a major portion of the length of said arm means to define an elongated space between said arm means and said base portion, said arm means being yieldingly movable relative to said base portion, whereby to permit movement of said blade relative to said base portion in substantially the plane of said blade.

Razor blade assembly comprising a razor blade having a cutting edge and support means connected to said blade, said support means comprising a plastic member having an elongated base portion, a pair of arms each integral with said base portion and extending from either end of said portion toward each other, said arms extending generally parallel to said base portion, tab means disposed proximate to the free ends of said arms and extending through a slot in said blade and secured therein, said arms being separated from said base portion throughout a major portion of the length of said arms, said free ends of said arms being yieldingly movable relative to said base portion to permit movement of said blade relative to said base portion.
Claims (3)
1. Razor blade assembly comprising a razor blade having a cutting edge and a non-cutting edge and support means connected to said blade, said support means comprising a member having a base portion disposed about the non-cutting edge and flexible arm means integral with said base portion and extending therefrom generally parallel to said base portion, said arm means being separated from said base portion throughout a major portion of the length of said arm means to define an elongated space between said arm means and said base portion, said arm means being attached to said blade by tab and slot means on said arm means and blade, said blade being not otherwise attached to said support means, said flexible arm means being movable relative to said base portion whereby to permit movement of said blade relative to said base portion in substantially the plane of said blade.
2. Razor blade assembly comprising a razor blade having a cutting edge and a non-cutting edge and support means connected to said blade, said support means comprising a plastic member having a base portion disposed about the non-cutting edge and arm means integral with said base portion and extending therefrom, said arm means extending generally parallel to said base portion, tab means disposed proximate to a free end of said arm means and extending through opening means in said blade and secured therein, said arm means being separated from said base portion throughout a major portion of the length of said arm means to define an elongated space between said arm means and said base portion, said arm means being yieldingly movable relative to said base portion, whereby to permit movement of said blade relative to said base portion in substantially the plane of said blade.

Razor blade assembly comprising a razor blade having a cutting edge and support means connected to said blade, said support means comprising a plastic member having an elongated base portion, a pair of arms each integral with said base portion and extending from either end of said portion toward each other, said arms extending generally parallel to said base portion, tab means disposed proximate to the free ends of said arms and extending through a slot in said blade and secured therein, said arms being separated from said base portion throughout a major portion of the length of said arms, said free ends of said arms being yieldingly movable relative to said base portion to permit movement of said blade relative to said base portion.
