My invention relates to anv improved stationindicator, the novelty of which consists in the construction and arrangement of parts, as
hereinafter fully described and claimed.
In the drawings hereto annexed, Figure l is a perspective view of the device. Fig. 2 is a Fig. 3 is a transverse vertical section on the linex x of Fig. 2. Fig. 4 is a horizontal section on the line y y of Fig. 2.

Referring to the drawings, in which similar letters denote corresponding parts in' all the figures, A designates thebody of the indicator,
'comprisingtwo sections, B B', of sheet metal, nadaptedto telescope together, the section B the small supplemental plates d d are secured to the section B', to slide close to thesaidtop and bottom plates, DD', and adapted to serve as extensions to the said top and bottom when 1the sections B B are extended.
E is a casting secured to the lower side of thebody, having a handle, E, for a purpose hereinafter explained, and F is a casting secured to the upper-side of the body, having a loop, f, in the upper part, to which is secured the lower end of a spring-balance, G, adapted to normally hold the device raised out of the Way. The said spring-balance is of any ordinary or preferred construction-as, for instance, a spring-roller having a band or strap to bc rolled thereon, to the lower end of which strap is attached the indicatorfbody, in the manner described.
The object is to provide means whereby, when released, the body of the indicator will be drawn up to the limit of motion thereof, out of the way.

adapted to guide the vertical motion of the said box and prevent all lateral motion thereof. The opposi te sides of the box are provided with openings I I, through which is exhibited the name of the station at which the train or car will next stop.
K represents the label or slip of sheet metalhaving the name of a station on each side, said label being adapted to be inserted into the box through the open end L ofthe box, the opposite end being closed and shaped'to represent the protruding ends of the said labels, in order to make the appearance of the device sym.A metrical.
M is a small ridge or edge formed at the lower side of the opening L, adapted to enter a small recess or notch, Z, in the lower side of the outer end of the` labels and prevent the same from slipping out ofthe body by the jolting of the car While in motion.
The labels are so arranged in the box that when a station has been passed the conductor, drawing the indicator down within reach, removes the label from one side of the box and places it at the other without turning it, and the name of the next station is indicated on both sides of the box. The manner of arranging these lables and the names thereon is very simple-namely, the name of the iirst station and the name of the succeeding station are placed on opposite sides of the same label; the naines of the second and third stations are placed on opposite sides of the second label; the names of the third and fourth stations are placed on opposite sides of the third label, and so on. An indicator having the body- A, coniprising the telescoping sections B B', bolts C, to hold the said sections at the proper extension, and the false or double top and bottoni plates each being formed of two sections adapted to slide one over the other to present an unbroken rectangular shape within the said body, substantial] y as described.
4. The indicator having the body comprising the telescoping sections B B', having open ings in the sides to show the naine ot the station, and being open at one end to allow the insertion ol.' the labels bearing the said names, and closed at the other end, substantially as described.
5. rIhe combination, in an indieator,ot` the body A, to contain the names of the stations, loopon the upper side, handle on the lower side, guide-rods on which the said body slides to direct the motion of the body, and means, substantially as described, whereby the same when released is drawn up ont ofthe way,sub stantially as and for the purpose set forth.
6. In an indicator, the body A, to contain the names of the stations, the guide-rods on which the said body slides to direct the motion thereof, and spring-actuated means connecting with the body to draw the latter up when released, as set forth.
7. The indicator having the body A, provided with the openings I I in the opposite sides, and the opening Lin one end, having a ledge or ridge, M, at the lower side,combined with the labels K, having a small recess or notch, Z, in. the lower edge to receive the said ridge when the label is in place and prevent the saine 'from being jarred ont of position, substantially as described, for the purpose set forth.
