SPECI-FICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 366,771, dated July 191 1887.

Be it known that I, ROBERT S. GoULD, ot' East Orange, inthe county of Essex and State of New Jersey, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Curtain-Pole Angle- Joints, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to an angle-joint for enrtain-poles,which presents a neat and ornamental appearance, as it can be arranged in keeping with the ends of the curtain-poles, the construction being simple and so arranged that the poles can be conveniently inserted into the caps of the joint without the use of screws.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 represents a plan of my improved curtain-pole angle-joint; and Fig. 2 is a horizontal section ofthe same, shown with the caps and poles placed in line.
Similar letters of reference indicate correspending parts.
This improved angle-joint for curtain-poles comprises two caps, A, adapted to be slipped over the adjacent ends of the poles to be coupled. Are-shaped clips a are attached at their inner ends tothe caps A at diametricallyopposite points and overlap at their outer meeting ends. An ornamental hollow body, B, is interposed between the ends of the poles and inclosed by the arc-shaped arms. rIhis hollow body is divided into two parts or members, one of which is slightly larger than the other, the larger segment having a lip or flange which shuts over the smaller one. Pivotserews b are passed through the overlapping ends of the arc-shaped clips and through the shell B, nuts b' being attached to the pivotscrews at their inner ends within said body. In assembling the parts the larger segment of the body B is tirst placed in position and the pivot-screws passed through the arc-shaped clips into said segments, and the nuts placed over the ends of the screws. The smaller segment of the body B is then placed in position and its edge inserted within the flange of the larger segment. The hollow body B conforms in shape to the pole ends, being spherical when the pole ends are spherical.
The poles may be readily adjusted by the joint at any suitable angle toward each other, they being supported on brackets, as customary in curtain-pole angle-joints. The anglejoint requires no screws of any kind to attach it to the poles, the caps being simply slipped over the pole ends. It can also be used with poles of different diameters, whereby a smaller number of sizes of angle-joints are required to be kept in stock.
Having thus described my invcntion,I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- A curtain-pole angle-joint consisting of caps for inclosing the pole ends, arc-shaped clips attached at their inner ends to said caps at diametrically-opposite points, the clips ot one cap overlapping the clips of the other cap at their meeting points, a hollow body divided into separable segments interposed between the ends of the poles and inelosed by said arcshaped clips, pivot-screws passed through the overlapping ends of said clips and through the shell ol' the larger segment of said body, and nuts screwed to the inner ends of said pivot-screws within said body, substantially as described.
