SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 366,764, dated July 19, 1887.

To aZZ whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, SOLOMON ORowELL, of Syracuse, in the county of Onondaga, in the State of New York, have invented new and useful Improvements in Dinner-Pails, ofwhich the following, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, is a full, clear, and exact description.

This invention consists in a novel construction and combination of a dinner-pail having an opening in its side, a door for closing said opening, receptacles arranged removably inside and upon the top of said pail, and a lampsupport under the top receptacle,all arranged to safely, compactly, and conveniently carry the dinner and to render the same easily accessible when required, and also admitof heating the contents of the top receptacle, all as hereinafter more fully described, and specifically set forth in the claim.

In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a front elevation of my improved dinner-pail with the door partly opened. Fig. 2 is a top plan view of the same. Fig. 3 is a vertical transverse section, and Fig. 4 is a horizontal transverse seetion,ot' the front portion of the 'pail,showing the arrangement of the guides in which the door slides.

Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.

A designates the pail, which is of reetangular form and provided with an opening, 0, extending completely across its front side. D denotes a door for closing said opening. This (1001' may be either hinged on the pail or arranged to slide in guides to a, attached to the pail, as shown in Figs. 1 and 40f the drawings.

Inside of the pail are fitted removabl y boxes or drawers B B,provided with removable covers b I), and seated preferably one upon the other,so as to render them compact in the pail and cause them to sit steadily in their positions. These drawers occupy only a portion of the height of the pail. Upon the top of the pail is seated removably a can, 0, which serves as a cover to the pail. The bottom portion of said can projects part way into the pail, so as to properly sustain the can in its position, the

top ofthe can being provided with an upwardprojccting spout, a, through which to fill and empty the can, and to the top of this spout is applied a removable cover, (I, provided with a tubular downward projection, cl, which enters the spout and holds the cover (I in position. The described cover d (1, when removed from the can O,serves as a drinkingcup. Beneath the can O, and preferably immediately above the drawers B B,the interior of the pail is provided with a shelf or othersuitable sup port for a lamp, l, by which to heat the contents of the can 0.

To the exterior of the pail is connected a suitable bail or handle by which to carry the pail. To the under side ofthe can 0, I attach legs a a, preferably composed oftlexible metallic strips curved so as to bear with their intermediate portions on the top edge of the lamp when said parts are introduced into the pail, as illustrated in Fig. 3 of the drawings, said legs serving to support the can when removed t'rom the pail and set aside,and by the removal of the can from the pail the lamp Z is liberated and allowed to be removed from the pail when required for replenishing or trimming it.

Having described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, 1s

The combination, with the pail formed at its base with a compartment for drawers and boxes, of a shelf over said compartment and a lamp seated on said shelf, a can seated removably on top of the pail and closing the same, and flexible legs secured to the bottom of said can and bearing on the top edge of the lamp, substantially as described and shown.
