Be it known that I, J Aeon ULLRTOH, of I-Iolooken, in the county of Hudson, State of New Jersey, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Fountain-Pens, of which the following is a specification.

The object of my'invention is to provide a new and improved fountaiirpen in which the ink ilows steadily and easily, and which pen does not require any shaking for the purpose of causing the ink to flow.

The invention consists in the combination, with the usual tubular stem for receiving the ink, ofa tip or feeder having aprojecting en'd resting against the under side of the pen, which tip has a longitudinal groove extending from the front to a short distance from the rear end, and at the rear end a slot is provided which connects the said groove with a V-shaped recess in the opposite side of the inner part of the tip.

The invention also consists of a clip held on the upper surface ofthe pen `for the purpose of retaining the ink on the upper surface of the pen.

In the accompanying drawings, Figure l is' a longitudinal sectional view of my improved fountain-pen. Fig. 2 is a front view of that side of the tip facing the pen. Fig. 3 is a rear view of the same opposite the one resting against the under side of the pen.

The tip A is inserted in the tube B, screwed in one end of the tubular reservoir or handle C, containing the ink. Said tube A has its inner end, A', made cylindrical, and its front end is pointed or tapered. That face of the tip that is pointed is provided with a longitudinal groove, D, which extends fromashort distance from the point of the tip to a short distance from the inner end, and serves to conduct the ink to the tip of the pen. At the rear end of said groove said tip is provided with the slot E,which connects the rear end ofthe groove D with the V-shaped recess F on the rear part of the tip, and on that surface or side oppoof the tip, it is not apt to become clogged with V the ink. rIlhe ink can thus readily pass from the recess into the slot F, and from the same to the groove D, the capillary attraction of the slot and groove serving to draw the ink tothe front end of theti p. The inl; passes from the groove ofthe tip to thepoint ofthe pen, which is held in the usual manner in the holder. A metal or rubber clip, H, may be held on the top of the pen to retain the ink on the upper surface of the pcn.

I am aware that tips have been provided with the longitudinal grooves and with slots; but I have found that in most cases the inkconductor becomes clogged, requiring shak- .ing of the pen to cause the inl; to iiow, or requiring some sudden or abrupt movement, which is not necessary in my improved tip.

` Having thus described my invention, Iclaim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent#- A fountain-pen provided with a tip having a longitudinal groove in one side, a slot at the inner end of said groove, and a recess in the inner end of the tip in that side opposite the vone provided with the groove, which recess decreases in depth and width from the inner to the outer end of the tip, said recess being in communication with the groove by means ofthe above-mentioned slot, substantially as shown and described.
