UNITED STATES PATENT Qrrrcn.
WILSON GODFREY, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
BOTTLE-CASING.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No; 365,513, dated June 28, 1887.
Application filed April 16, 1887. Serial N'o.235,073.
To all whom it may concern:
Be, it known that I, WILsoN GODFREY, of the city, county, and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Veneer Casing for Bottles, 8nd, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, in which similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in both the figures.
Figure 1 is a side elevation of my new and improvedveneer-casing; and Fig. 2 is a sectional elevation of the same, showing an inclosed bottle.
The invention will first be described in connectionwith the drawings, and then pointed out in the claims.
I first form a cylindrical casing or tube, A, of three-ply veneer united at the edges a. At the top of this tube and upon the inside I secure the hoop B, beveled at its inner surface to conform approximately to the shape of the breast of the bottle 0. r
Within the casing or tube A, I-placcathick packing, D of felt or other suitable material, the hoop B serving to press the packing in close contact with'the bottle. The top. E of the casing is conical and made ofthree-ply veneer, with the opening E at the apex for the neck of the bottle. Around this opening is secured, by nails or rivets, to the top the screwthreaded metal ring F to receive the screw-threaded cap G. The ring F is formed with the inclined flange f to fit the sloping outer surface of the top E. The lower edge of the top E is of the same diameter, or thereabout, as the top of tube A, and is provided (No model.)
with the hoop H, formed with the sloping top flange, h, which holds the top firmly in place. The bottom J is of the same diameter as the tube A, and is provided with the metal hoop J.
In applying the casing to the bottle the top E and tube A are first united bysmall nails 1;, driven through the hoop E into the tube, and these nails also secure the inside hoop B. The packing D is then put in place, and then the bottle (3 is inserted, and then the bottom J is put on and secured by small nails 73, driven into it through the hoop J and the casingtube.
To fill or empty the bottle 0 the cap G has simply to be removed, and when replaced the bottle is entirely inclosed and very securely protected,so that it can be safely shipped without danger of breakage.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is' 1. The tube A, closed at its lower end-with the bottom piece J, and provided at the top with the conical top E, in combination with the hoop B,secured upon the inside of the tube A at or near its upper end, substantially as and for the purposes set forth.
2. The tubular casing A, provided with the hoop B, in combination with the bottom J, hoop J, conical top E, flanged hoop H, packing D, screw-threaded ring F, and cap G, sub stantially as described.
