YVILLIAM O. REEVES, OF ORAMER HILL, NEW JERSEY.
BUGGY-SEAT POCKET.
$PECIPICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 364,771, dated June 14, 1887.
Application filedfl'une 30, 1886. Serial No. 206,688. (No model.)
Be it known that 1, WILLIAM G. REEVES, a citizen of theUnited States, residing at Oramer Hill, in the county of Camden and State of New Jersey, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Buggy-Seat Pockets or Bags; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
My invention relates 'to receptacles for at-v tachment or nse under vehicle-seats; and the object of the invention is to provide abag or box for receiving articles which will not hold moisture nor gather odors by reason of imperfect ventilation. I employ foraminous material of which to construct the box, preferably using woven-wire netting, so that there shall be no imperforate walls or bottom to retain dampness and gather the odors of any articles which may be placed in it, nor of the stable or shed in which the buggy maybe housed. The open material constituting the sides and bottom'of the box affords not only a perfect ventilation, but also prevents any saturation from damp or watery articles. To preventthis saturation, the wire-netting will be found to be the most practical article which can be employed, as it is the cheapest, most readily applied, and in other respects the best material that can be found for the purpose.
The following detailed description willfully indicate the manner in which I employ this invention.
The accompanying drawings illustrate what I consider the best means for carrying my invention into practice.
Figure l is a View showing the side of a buggy broken away to exhibit the end of the box or'bag. This figure also shows the proximity of the buggy or vehicle seat to the box or bag. Fig. 2 is a front view of the seat and foramin'ous box or bag.
Similar letters of reference indicate correspondingparts. I
A is the side of the buggy or other vehicle.
B is the seat, and b bthe legs or supports of the seat.
0 represents the foraminous box or bag. As shown in the drawings, it is formed of wire-netting, and while, for reasons already given, I prefer to make it of that material, it will be understood that any foraminous material may be usedas, for instance, perforate wooden or metallic plates or slats. As formed of the woven wire, it is made by simply cut ting the material in such manner as to cause it,w-hen the incised corners are overlapped, as shown at c in the drawings, to form a bag or box of the proper form. I provide a door, as shown at D in Fig. 2, which is also formed of fora-minous material and hinged to the base of the box, as shown at' d d. Any suitable catch or fastening may be employed to keep this door closed. g
If desired, the box may be made without the door on the side and an opening with suitable cover provided in the buggy-seat. The top of the bag or box may or may not be covered with the Wire-netting or other foraminous material. Ordinarily it will not be necessary to have such a cover for it.
The box or bag is secured to the frame of the buggy-seat, and, if desired, to the posts by any suitable means, and when formed of woven wire the box or bag may havea stiffen- I ing-rib around the top and in the vertical and horizontal corners; but such will not ordinarily be required.
Having thus described my invention, what Iclaim, and desire to secure by Letters Pat- I In a buggy-seat, the combination, with the seat-frame and posts or supports therefor, of a bag or box constructed of wire-cloth having its corners overlapped, as shown at c, secured to the seat-frame at the top and extending down a portion of the wayin the space below the seat, so as to leave'a space between the bottom of the box and the buggy-bottom, as and for the purpose set forth.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
WILLIAM C. REEVES.
