1 Claims, 2 Drawing Figures PORTABLE OUTDOOR LIGHTING FIXTURE FOR MOBILE HOMES This invention relates to outdoor lighting fixtures, and more particularly to a portable lighting fixture for house trailers.
These devices are used as outside lights on trailers and must be removed when the trailer is in motion on a road.
Prior devices of this type comprise a small plug connected to a long threaded member and generally include a combination of spacing devices to make up the desired length.
These devices are difficult and expensive to assemble due to the plurality of parts and they are more likely to come loose due to vibration at the various connections of the parts. Also, it is difficult to make them waterproof due to the several joints between the spacers and covers.
The present device is an improvement which comprises a long solid plastic member with a shaftway. The single-plastic member replaces the plug and various spacing devices of the prior art and is absolutely waterproof. Also, it is not subject to loosening up due to vibration between various spacing elements.
Accordingly, a principal object of the invention is to provide a new and improved portable outdoor lighting fixture.
Another object of the invention is to provide a new and improved portable outdoor lighting fixture for mobile trailer homes.
Another object of the invention is to provide portable outdoor light fixture means for mobile homes comprising a unitary molded member adapted to have electrical prongs connected to one end, the other end of said member having a nipple portion with threads for connecting to a light fixture, said member having a hollow central shaftway connecting said ends.
These and other objects of the invention will be apparent from the following specification and drawings, of which:
FIG. 1 is a side sectional view of an embodiment of the invention.
FIG. 2 is an end view of the embodiment of FIG. 1.
Referring to the drawings, the invention comprises a member 1 which is of solid plastic or other insulating material except that it has a shaftway 2 through its entire length. At the right-hand end in FIG. 1, the member 1 has a portion 1 containing threads for receiving a nut 3, the purpose of which is to secure a lighting fixture 4 to the member I. The threads on the member I are preferably molded at the same time that piece I is molded.
Electrical prongs 5, 6 and ground wire prong 7 are connected to the left-hand side of the member I in conventional manner by means of molding prongs onto molded member, or riveting onto rivets that are molded into molded member, and the wires are adapted to be connected to the prongs in conventional manner by means of screws 5', 6', 7', or other means such as clamping or soldering.
The member I has a ridge 8 which is adapted to hold a mounting cap 9. The mounting cap 9 is adapted to be screwed onto a conventional outdoor-type electrical plug.
The lighting fixture 4 is conventional or may be conventional comprising the casing which supports a socket 10 in which is mounted a bulb 1 1. Wiring from the electrical prongs passes through the shaftway 2 and is connected to the lighting fixture in conventional manner.
Therefore, the present invention provides an improvement over outdoor lighting fixtures which contains less parts than conventional connectors, which comprises a single unitary member which replaces a plurality of interconnecting members. The unitary member of the present invention is waterproof as it has no removable parts and it is less likely to loosen due to vibration between different parts.
The member 1 may be molded in one molding portion including the shaftway and the threaded angle portion. Therefore, practically all machining and assembly labor is eliminated, the dimensions may be very accurately controlled, and the device is waterproof and vibration proof and provides a sturdy' mounting for the electrical light fixture, and the device is practically indestructible.
I claim:
1. Portable outdoor light fixture means for mobile homes comprising,
a solid unitary member of insulation material having electrical prongs connected to one end,
the other end of said unitary member having a nipple portion with threads for connecting to a light fixture,
said member having a hollow central shaftway connecting said ends,
an electrical light fixture mounted on said threaded portion,
said shaftway being adapted to receive wires for connecting said electrical prongs to said light fixture,
and a screw-type mounting ring rotatably mounted on the end of said unitary member,
said screw-type mounting ring being adapted to screw onto a conventional outdoor electric plug.
