Description

United States Patent Primary Examiner-Jerome Schnall Assistant Examiner-Wenceslao J. Contreras Attorney-Walter S. Pawl ABSTRACT: The photo frame form is a rectangular sheet of stiff paper adapted to be folded substantially midway of its length for making it stand upright on a horizontal surface, and having diagonal slits cut in the four corners of at least one of the folded portions for receiving the corners of a photo print to be framed therein, and having a gummed coating on at least one side of said form for adhesively mounting at least one of the folded portions in an album if desired, space being provided on the uncovered sides of the folded portions for data inscription relative to the framed photo prints.
PATENTEDNnv 30 Ian FIG. 4
FIG.
If IVIDJ'H )1! MELVIN M. MILLER rnoro FRAME FORMS BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION The present invention relates to framing and mounting means for photo prints, for independent use or in connection with their mounting in an album or the like. No prior art was found that approached the present disclosure any closer than U.S. Pat. No. 1,539,619 in class 40-158. The present invention however, is much simpler and more versatile in its uses.
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION The simple framing and mounting means of the present invention is a rectangular sheet of substantially stiffly flexible material having a frame portion at one side of a fold line across the length of the sheet, and a mounting or supporting portion at the other side thereof, with simple diagonal slits cut in the corners of the frame portion for receiving the corners of a photo to be framed therein, and a gummed side on the mounting or supporting portion for sticking it to the surface of an album page or the like if so desired, otherwise this portion is used as a supporting means to hold the photo frame portion standing upright on any horizontal surface.
The object of the invention is to provide a supply of simple rectangular sheet forms in pad form, for use in providing frames for photos of one or more standard sizes having a foldable tab at one edge of the frame portion for standing the frame erect on a horizontal surface, or for mounting the frame on an album page or other plane surface by wetting its gummed surface and sticking it to said plane surface in appropriate positions, as illustrated in the drawing, wherein:
FIG. 1 shows a pad of these forms in perspective,
FIG. 2 shows four of these forms mounted on an album page in four different ways,
FIG. 3 shows a perspective view of one of the forms folded along its center fold line and used independently to support the frame portion upright on a horizontal surface, and
FIG. 4 shows a similar use of the form for a larger size photo print.
DESCRIPTION While there may be other embodiments of these forms made within the scope of this invention, the details of the preferred form are shown in FIG. 1, wherein each form has two fold lines indicated thereon to define two sizes of frame portions F at one side thereof, the data portions D at the other side thereof serving as the supporting means for standing the frame upright on a horizontal surface, as shown in FIGS. 3 and 4, or as a means for sticking to any plane surface to fix the frame thereto in any position desired, as shown in FIG. 2.
The frame portions have diagonal slits C cut in the corners of each size frame portion, for receiving the corners of a corresponding size of photo prints P which may be mounted therein.
The data portions may have indications where data relative to the picture may be inscribed at the time the photo is taken, when the circumstances are fresh in mind, or at some later time when the photo is mounted in the frame portion.
More than two sizes of prints may also be accommodated by providing additional slits for narrower and shorter or longer prints within the borders of the largest frame portion that can be provided in this size of sheets. Obviously, larger size sheets may be designed for larger prints, as may be desired.
It will be noted that the photo print may be mounted in the frame portion in either one of two reverse positions on either side thereof, and the form may be mounted in an album in any one of four positions, as may be desired, and as illustrated in FIG. 2, using only the gummed side of the larger frame portion to mount the print in. These prints could also be mounted on the ungummed sides of the frame portions in end-for-end reversed positions, if desired, showing the versatility in use of these simple sheet forms having one gummed side.
Many other obvious modifications in details and uses of these forms may be made without departing from the spirit and scope of this invention.
What IS claimed is:
1. A photo frame sheet form, comprising a rectangular sheet of stiff but flexible material having a fold line across its long dimension whereby the sheet may be folded along said fold line to enable it to be stood up in a vertical position,
the portion extending to one side of said fold line forming a holding frame for a photo print of corresponding size, and having means at its corners for receiving the corners of said photo print,
the portion extending to the other side of said line having spaces indicated for data inscription relating to said photo print adjacent its outer end,
at least one additional fold line indicated at points spaced along the length of said sheet from said first fold line to define other lengths of said frame portion for corresponding sizes of photo prints, and
an additional pair of photo comer receiving means at the corners of each additional holding frame portion adjacent its corresponding fold line.
2. A photo frame form as defined in claim I,
said sheet material being paper.
3. A photo frame form as defined in claim 1,
said means for receiving the comers of said photo print being diagonal slits cut in said sheet material at the corners of said frame portion.
4. A photo frame form as defined in claim I,
one side of said form being gummed for mounting the back of the data portion on a page in an album.
5. A photo frame form as defined in claim 1, having one of said fold lines indicated at the center of the long dimension.
