M; L. GIBBS.
PLOW GLEVIS.
No 362.073. Patented May 3, 1887.
WITNESSES.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
MARTIN L. GIBBS, OF FINDLAY, OHIO.
PLOW-CLEVIS.
" SPECIFICATION forming part Of Letters Patent NO. 362,073, dated May 3, 1887.
Application filed March 11, 1887.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, MARTIN L. GIBBs, a citizen of the United States, residing at Findlay, in the county of Hancock and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Plow- Clevises; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawings, making a part of this specification, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon, in which Figure l is a perspective view showing clevis attached to a plow-beam. Fig. 2 is a side elevation showing it partly in section. Fig. 3 is a detached View of swivel-link and draft-bar. Fig. 4 is a detail view.
The present invention has relation to plowclevises; and its nature consists in the different parts and combination of parts hereinafter described, and particularly pointed out in the claims.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the figures of the drawings.
In the accompanying drawings, A represents the plow-beam,which maybe constructed inthe ordinary manner. To the front orforward end of the beam A is securely attached the crownhead B, said crown-head being provided with the cogs or teeth a, which may be located substantially as shown in the drawings, and are for the purpose hereinafter described.
To the sides of the beam A are attached the arms or bars 0, said bars or arms being held in proper position by means of the clampingbolt b. The rear ends of these bars or arms 0 are provided with elongated slots 0, which are for the purpose of adjusting said bars or arms on the clamping-bolt b. The front or forward ends of the arms or bars 0 are provided with the apertures d and d, the aperture at being somewhat larger than the aperture (1, so as to admit of the passage of the head D and securely hold the draft-bar E in proper position endwise after it has entered the apertures d. To the draft-bar E is pivotally attached the link or eye bar F. This link or eye bar is securely held to the draft-bar E by means of the head e, which may be formed on the end of the bar F after it has been passed through the position.
Serial No. 230,486. (No model.)
draft-bar E. For the purpose of preventing the link or eye bar F from binding, the block f may be placed between the head e and the draft-bar E, which may be substantially of the form shown in the drawings.
The draft-barE is provided with the eccentrics G, which are located substantially as shown, and are for the purpose of bearing against the end of the crown-head B, thereby preventing the draft-bar E from being forced back, and at the same time forming shoulders to assist in holding the draft-bar E in proper position. The front or forward ends of the bars or arms 0 are provided with the wards or projections g, which are for the purpose of engaging the teeth c, and thereby securely holding said arms or bars 0 and the draft-bar E with its different parts at the desired point of adjustment. In case it is desired to change the clevis, so as to change the depth of the plow, the link or eye bar F is placed in the position shown in Fig. 2, when the arms or bars 0 can be forced backward, thereby releasing the wards or projections g from the teeth a and setting the arms or bars 0 at any desired point within the limit of the teeth a when the link or eye bar F is placed in line with the beam A.
It will be seen that by pivotally attaching the link or eye bar F to the draft-bar E the running of the plow will not be affected by the swaying of the double'tree, and at the same time the plow can be turned on either side without detaching the double-tree, and in case it is desired to tilt the plow while it is running the double-tree will not be'interfered with. It will also be seen that by my peculiar manner of attaching the draft-bar E the link or eye bar F can swing either up or down, thereby permitting the plow-beam to be raised without carrying with it the double-tree.
For the purpose of shortening the arms or bars 0, the groove H is provided, which is for the purpose of forming a passageway for the head 6 and the block f. The apertures (11 are provided with the ribs I, said ribs being for the purpose of engaging the heads D and securely holding the arms Gin proper parallel To the sides of the beam A are placed the caps J, which are located substantially as 'shown and are for the purpose of receiving the ends of the bolt 1), and at the same time permitting the arms 0 to be moved back and forth on said bolt 1) without first loosening said bolt.
Having fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. The beam A, provided with the crown head B, having teeth a, the arms or bars 0, 10 provided with the slots 0, the wards or projections g, and the apertures d d, the draft-bar E, provided with the eccentrics G, and having pivotally attached to said draft-bar the link F, and the bolt 7), substantially as and for the purpose specified.
2. The combination of the beam A, provided with the crown-head B, provided with the groove H, the arms 0, the draft-bar E, provided with the eccentrics G, and the link F, 20 substantially as and for the purpose specified.
3. The combination of the beam A, provided with the crown-head B, arms 0, draft-bar E,
provided with the eccentrics G, and having attached thereto the link F, the block f, and head 0, substantially as and for the purpose 25 specified.
4. The combination of thebeam A, provided with the crown-head B, the arms 0, provided M ARTIN L. GIBBS.
