Abstract

A hollow frustoconical shell whose sides merge on a radius of curvature into a flanged annular base and adapted for use above ground or partially submerged in water. The wall of the shell is provided with a downwardly opening entrance to provide a user with access to the interior of the shell and to a vertically disposed ladder terminating at the opening provided by the frustum of the shell. Upon reaching the top of the ladder a user makes his exit through the open frustum into a position for sliding down the wall of the shell somewhat in the manner enjoyed by users of pool-side slide apparatus for quick descent into the water.

AMUSEMENT SLIDE The objects of the invention are: To provide an amusement device for private or public use in swimming pools, or playgrounds or other recreational areas and preferably, though not restrictively, made of smooth plastic in the general shape of a hollow frustocone whose sides merge on a radius of curvature into a flanged annular base for stability, and whereby a user can slide away from the cone on a level with the supporting surface of the cone or water surrounding the cone when the same is submerged.
The foregoing and other objects and advantages which will become subsequently apparent reside in the details of construction and operation as more fully hereinafter described and claimed, reference being had to the accompanying drawing forming a part hereof and in which:
FIG, 1 is a top plan view of an amusement device made in accordance with our invention.
FIG. 2 is a side elevational view of FIG. 1 with a fragment broken away to illustrate internal structure, and
FIG. 3 is a view similar to FIG. 1 of a modified form of the invention.
Referring now more particularly to the drawing wherein like reference numerals designate like parts, numeral 1 indicates generally a hollow frustoconical shell wherein the frustum provides an exit 2 and the sidewall 3 merge on a radius of ourvature 4 with a flat circular base flange 5.
A downwardly opening entrance 6 is formed in the sidewall 3 to provide user-access to the interior of the shell and to a vertically disposed ladder 7. The top of the ladder is secured to a cross member 8 whose ends are mounted to or within brackets 9 secured in any suitable manner to the underside of the annular flange 10 at the frustum of the cone. Intermediate the top and bottom ends of the ladder, the rails 11 and 12 are secured as at 13 to the inner ends of struts 14 whose outer ends are secured as at 15 to blocks 16 molded integral with the wall of the cone.
in the modified form of the invention shown in FIG. 3, the top of the shell is defined by a rounded peak 20. In this embodiment we dispense with the entrance 6 and the ladder 5, and substitute a sanded or roughened footpath 21 to enable a user to climb to the top and then slide down the wall of the shell.
What we claim is:
1. An amusement slide device comprising a hollow generally conical shell whose wall flares at its bottom portion on a radius of curvature into a flat annular base for the support of the shell on a supporting surface, and wherein the exterior of said wall is smooth surfaced,
said shell in the form of a frustum and having an egress opening therein, means associated with said shell enabling a user to climb to the top of the shell for quick sliding down the outside of the wall of the shell and away from the bottom thereof substantially on the same level as the supporting surface,
said means comprising a vertically disposed ladder on the interior of the shell with its top end terminating substantially at the level of said egress opening,
means interconnecting the ladder with said wall of the shell,
and
said wall having an entrance opening for user-access to the interior of the shell and to the ladder for climbing to said egress opening and exit therefrom for a quick slide to the bottom of the shell.

Claims (1)

1. An amusement slide device comprising a hollow generally conical shell whose wall flares at its bottom portion on a radius of curvature into a flat annular base for the support of the shell on a supporting surface, and wherein the exterior of said wall is smooth surfaced, SAID SHELL IN THE FORM OF A FRUSTUM AND HAVING AN EGRESS OPENING THEREIN, MEANS ASSOCIATED WITH SAID SHELL ENABLING A USER TO CLIMB TO THE TOP OF THE SHELL FOR QUICK SLIDING DOWN THE OUTSIDE OF THE WALL OF THE SHELL AND AWAY FROM THE BOTTOM THEREOF SUBSTANTIALLY ON THE SAME LEVEL AS THE SUPPORTING SURFACE, SAID MEANS COMPRISING A VERTICALLY DISPOSED LADDER ON THE INTERIOR OF THE SHELL WITH ITS TOP END TERMINATING SUBSTANTIALLY AT THE LEVEL OF SAID EGRESS OPENING, MEANS INTERCONNECTING THE LADDER WITH SAID WALL OF THE SHELL, AND SAID WALL HAVING AN ENTRANCE OPENING FOR USER-ACCESS TO THE INTERIOR OF THE SHELL AND TO THE LADDER FOR CLIMBING TO SAID EGRESS OPENING AND EXIT THEREFROM FOR A QUICK SLIDE TO THE BOTTOM OF THE SHELL.
