Abstract

An amusement slide adapted to rest on a substantially horizontal support surface and for use simultaneously by two persons, comprising an upright column, means supported by the column and defining an upwards facing inclined surface, the bottom of the column resting on the support surface and the column passing through the inclined surface, the means defining the inclined surface having an upper edge and a lower edge, the lower edge being in proximity to the support surface, a ladder extending between the support surface and the upper edge, the minimum width of the inlined surface in the direction normal to the inclination of the inclined surface in all positions of the inclined surface which do not include the column being sufficiently great to permit two children to slide down the inclined surface simultaneously and the minimum width of the inclined surface in the direction normal to the inclination of the surface on either side of the column being sufficiently great to permit two children, one on each side of the column, to slide down simultaneously.

2 Claims, 3 Drawing Figures AMUSEMENT SLIDE ADAPTED TO BE USED SIMULTANEOUSLY BY TWO PERSONS This invention relates to an amusement slide adapted to be used simultaneously by two persons, particularly, of course, children.

Slides are popular amusement devices, particularly for children. For reasons of economy of money and space, it would frequently be desirable to have available a slide upon which two persons can stimultaneously slide. It is an object of the invention to provide such a slide. Other objects and advantages of the invention will be apparent from the following description.

According to the invention, there is provided an amusement slide adapted to rest on a substantially horizontal support surface and for use simultaneously by two persons, comprising an upright column, means defining an upwards facing inclined surface, said means being supported by the column, the bottom of the column resting on the support surface and the column passing through the inclined surface, the means defining the inclined surface having an'upper edge and a lower edge, the lower edge being in proximity to the support surface, a ladder extending between the support surface and the upper edge, the minimum width of the inclined surface in the direction normal to the inclination of the inclined surface in all positions of the inclined surface which do not include the column being sufficiently great to permit two children to slide down the inclined surface simultaneously and the minimum width of the inclined surface in the direction normal to the inclination of the surface on either side of the column being sufficiently great to permit two children, one on each side of the column, to slide down simultaneously.

According to another aspect of the invention, the slide may further comprise means defining asubstantially horizontal surface in proximity to the support surface and extending beyond the lower edge of the means defining the inclined surface in the same general direction as the projection on a horizontal surface of the downward inclination of the inclined surface, the extending horizontal surface being sufficiently large to receive two children who simultaneously slide down the inclined surface.

The invention shall now be further described by reference to a specific embodiment as illustrated in the drawings, in which:

FIG. 3 is an elevation of the slide as viewed from plane 3 3 of FIG. 1.

The slide 10 comprises a column 11 integral with a member 12 which defines an upwards facing inclined surface 13. The bottom of the column 11 rests on a substantially horizontal support surface S, which typically would be the ground or a floor, and thereby supports the member 12. The column 11 passes through the inclined surface 13; The member 12 has an upper edge 14 and a lower edge 15. The lower edge 15 is in proximity to the surface S. A ladder 16 extends between the surface S and the upper edge 14. The minimum width X of the inclined surface 13 in the direction normal to the direction Y of the inclination of the inclined surface 13 for all portions of the inclined surface 13 which do not include the column 11 is sufficiently great to permit two children to slide down the inclined surface 13 simultaneously. The respective minimum width Z, Z of the inclined surface 13 on either side of the column 11 is sufficiently great to permit the two children to continue simultaneously to slide down the inclined surface 13, one on each side of the column 11, as indicated by arrows L and R. A member 17 defining a substantially horizontal surface 18 is connected to the lower edge 15 of the member 12 and to the base of the column 11. The surface 18 extends away from the edge 15 in the direction Y. The thusly extending portion of the surface 18 is sufficiently large in the direction Y and normal to the direction Y to receive the two children who simultaneously slide down. Guard walls 19 and 19' formed on the lateral edges of the member 13 help assure that the children arrive safely on the landing surface 18.

it is preferred that the slide be constructed of a plastic, such as polyethylene, polypropylene, polystyrene and the like, for light weight and portability which would make the slide particularly suitable for use indoors in inclement weather. For indoor use, the slide might be constructed to a rather small scale, particularly for very small children, to permit the slide to be transported through doorways.

Having herein described the invention, what is claimed as new is:

1. An amusement slide adapted to rest on a substantially horizontal support surface and for use simultaneously by two persons, comprising an upright column, means defining an upwards facing inclined surface, said means being supported by the column, the bottom of the column resting on the support surface and the column passing through the inclined surface, the means defining the inclined surface having an upper edge and a lower edge, the lower edge being in proximity to the support surface, a ladder extending between the support surface and the upper edge, the minimum width of the inclined surface in the direction normal to the inclination of the inclined surface in all positions of the inclined surface which do not include the column being sufficiently great to permit two children to slide down the inclined surface simultaneously and the minimum width of the inclined surface in the direction normal to the inclination of the surface on either side of the column being sufficiently great to permit two children, one on each side of the column, to slide down simultaneously.

2. An amusement slide according to claim 1, further comprising means defining a substantially horizontal surface in proximity to the support surface and extending beyond the lower edge of the means defining the inclined surface in the same general direction as the projection on a horizontal surface of the downward inclination of the inclined surface, the extending horizontal surface being sufficiently large to receive two children who simultaneously slide down the inclined surface.
