GROVER & WRIGHT.
Churn.
- Patented Aug. 12,1862.
UNIT D STATES PATENT OFFICE.
DEMAS L. GROVER AND LUTHER S. WRIGHT, OF GROTON, NEW YORK.
IMPROVEMENT lN CHURNS.
' Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 36,147, dated August 12, 1862.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, DEMAS L. GROVER and LUTHER S. WRIGHT, of Groton, in the county of Tompkins and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Ohurns; and we do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the construction and operation of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawings, making a part of this specification, in which Figure 1 is a top view, with half ofthe cover removed. Fig. 2 is a section.
We construct the body of our churn in a square form, as shown at A, Figs. 1 and 2.
B, C, and D are miter or bevel gears for op erating the churn by means of the crank E. The gear B is fastened firmly on the hollow shaft H, just above the bearing in the'covcr N. The gear 0 is affixed to the upper end of the shaft I, the shaft I having its upper bearing in the center of shaft H, through which it passes. The lower end has its bearing in the center of the bottom of the churn. The gear D is made fast to the crank-shaft J, and engages the teeth B and O, turning them in 0pposite directions.
F and G are conical revolving beaters, F being attached to the lower end of the shaft H and to the frame K at the lower end of shaft violent to the upper surface of the cream,
when the butter rises and is readily gathered by the moderate agitation of the surface.
We do not claim any of the parts separately considered; but
What we claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The combination of the revolving conical beaters F and G (running in opposite directions) with the stationary beater-s L, placedin the corners of a square churn, as and for the purposes described.
