Description
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JOHN FATJO, OF SANTA CLARA, CALIFORNIA.
SULPHUR-SPRINKLER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 360,571, dated April 5l 1887. Y
Application tiled February 5, 1887. Serial No. 226,730.
.To @ZZ whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, JOHN FA'TJO, ot' Santa Clara, Santa Clara county, State of California, have invented an Improvement in Sulphur- Sprinklers; and I hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and cXact description ofthe same.
My invention relates to a device for sprinkling sulphur upon vines, so as to protect them from the ravages of insects and parasites.
It consists of a double conical vessel, the smaller portion of which is centrally located7 one end being beveled and provided with a gauze or screen sprinkler and the other end having a screw-cap, through which the material may be introduced.
Referring to the accompanying drawing for a more complete explanation of my invention, the figure shows a longitudinal section of the apparatus.
A is the upper and B the lower cone, the smaller ends ot' which are united in the center, as shown. At the base of the outer end of the coneAis a screw-cap, C, through which pulverized sulphur may be introduced into the apparatus.
D is a screen of perforated metal or gauze or othersuitable substance, through the mesh es of which the sulphur is discharged and sprinkled.
The end of this apparatus is beveled or inclined, as shown, so that the screen which is iixed to it stands at an angle.
The central portion of the sprinkler is made of small diameter, and serves as a handle by which the apparatus may be grasped, and by a peculiar turning or shaking of it by the (No model.)
twisting of the wrist the sulphur is discharged and spread about atany point where it is desired. By this construction the apparatus is evenly balanced, and is easily heldin one hand without tiring, and by means of the central grasp it is very easily operated.
By the angular position of the screen the contents of the' sprinkler striking it are diverted and then thrown out to one side of an axial line through the cones. This makes it possible to use the device in a horizontal as well as in a Vertical position, and the sulphur can thus be applied from beneath as well as above.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
l. Asulphur-sprinkler composed of the conical chambers having their smaller ends united to form a central handle and provided with an inclined discharging-screen at one end and a screw-cap at thevopposite end, substantially as herein described.
2. The sulphur sprinkler composed of a containing chamber or chambers having one end made angular' or beveled, in combination with a discharge or sprinkling screen fixed to this beveled end, substantiallyas herein described.V
In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand.
JOHN FATJO.
