Attorney-Irving M. Weiner ABSTRACT: An educational game characterized in that it consists of a box in which are disposed, in compartments or locations provided to this end, support means such as sheets of cardboard, wood or other suitable porous material, which may have different colors, books of separate sheets on which outline drawings are printed to constitute models or suggestions for other designs, patterns or imaginary compositions, preferably with reference data concerning the colors to be adapted for coloring each area bounded by a line, one or a plurality of lengths of a thin strip of flexible and malleable plastic or metallic material, for example alumetized aluminum, a bottle filled with a glue for causing sections of said strips cut to the desired lengths to adhere edgewise to the selected support, and possibly for filling in the coloisonn structure thus obtained and diluting the decoration gouache, and a bottle of special cold-enamelling varnish adapted to coat the finished work and impart thereto a brightness comparable to that of enamel.
snuc'xrrouxr. GAMES BACKGROUNDOF THE'INVENTION This invention relate'sin general to educational games and has specific reference to an educational game designed for amusing children, teaching them the art of drawing and colors selection, and stimulating their artistic sense and manual skill, while enabling them to make either by copying from models or by pure imagination artistic compositions very similar to cloisonn enamels.
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION To this end, this educational game consists of a box containing at locations properly arranged for this purpose supports such as sheets of cardboard, wood or other porous materials, which may have different colors, books or separate sheets of paper having outline drawings printed thereon and adapted to constitute models or to suggest other designs or patterns, preferably with data concerning the proper colors to be used for coloring each enclosed area bounded by an outline; one or a plurality of lengths of a thin strip of flexible and malleable plastic or metallic material, for example alumetized aluminum, a bottle filled with glue for gluing edgewise, on the selected support, a section of said thin flexible and malleable strip shaped according to the selected outline and cut to the proper length, with a view possibly to fill in the cloisorm structure thus obtained and to dilute the decoration gouache,
and a bottle of special cold-enamelling varnish adapted to coat the finished work in order to impart thereto a bright surface appearance comparable to that of enamel.
Of course, the box may also contain body colors or gouaches of different colors, or the products necessary for preparing same, a bottle containing a dilution of said glue, or of another glue adapted to cause the cloisonn-forming shaped strips of flexible and malleable material to adhere to their support, to fill in the pores of said support, and to dilute the gouache and also, if desired, tools such as scissors, etc. for cutting to the desired lengths the strips to be used for making the cloisonn structure, as well as tongs, pliers or sticks for imparting the designed shapes to the strip sections and constitute the desired cloisonn structure.
If it is desired to provide a plaster support for the artistic composition to be made, the box may further include a mold for casting this support and a small bag containing a powder for preparing the plaster, molding same to the desired shape and permit the quick setting thereof.
As a glue for securing the cloisonn structure, which may also be used for filling this structure arid diluting the gouache for coloring the thus-filled contours, a polyvinyl acetate emulsion may be used, for example of the type described in the French Pat. No. 1,263,9l7; for cold-enamelling work the product described in the same patent may be used, if desired.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWING The attached drawing illustrates diagrammatically by way of example a typical form of embodiment of this invention. In the drawing:
FIG. I is a perspective view of the educational game;
FIG. 2 is a plan view showing on a larger scale a composition adapted to be made by means of the game shown in FIG.
DESCRIPTION OF THE PREFERRED EMBODIMENT The box 1 illustrated in FIG. 1 contains a series of supports 2 consisting for example of sheets of cardboard and a bookof separate paper sheets on which designs or patterns are printed in outlines, a pair of small bags 4 and 5 containing rolls 6 and 7 of a thin strip of alumetized aluminum, a bottle 8 containing a diluted glue adapted to cause sections of said strips 6 and 7 to adhere edgewise to said support 2, after they have been shaped to the desired configuration corresponding to the selected design or pattern, another bottle 9 containing a thicker glue also adapted not only to cause properly shaped strip sections to adhere edgewise to said support but also to fill in previously formed cloisonne structures after having colored same with gouache according to a suitable method, a bottle 10 containing a product adapted to effect the cold-enamelling of the cloisonn fillings, a mold 11 for casting plaster supports and a small bag 12 containing a powder for preparing said preferably quick-setting molded plaster support.
This game is used as follows: A supporting sheet 13 (FIG. 2) is taken from the box and a drawing is made on this support by means of lines 14, either by copying a model taken from the book of sheets 3 and representing for example a character, an animal, a landscape, or by making any other desired composition; then the number of strip sections 15, 15a, 15b, etc; required for reproducing the outline drawing 14 are cut and secured to the support 13 for example by using the solution contained in bottle 8, as shown in 16in FIG. 3; then cloisonn structures or enclosures bounded by these various sections 15, 15a, 15b, are filled in by using the product contained in'bottle 9, previously colored with different gouaches or like body colors suited to each bounded area 17, 18 and 19, and the whole is coated with the special cold-enamelling varnish 20 contained in the bottle 10.
According to an alternate form of embodiment, the parti tioned or cloisonn areas may be filled with glass beads of different colors, instead of the glue contained in bottle 9, said beads being glued to the support and subsequently coldenamelled as in the preceding case.
Of course, the specific form of embodiment described hereinabove with reference to the attached drawing should not be construed as limiting the scope of the invention since it is given by way of example to which many modifications may be brought without departingfrom the basic principle of the invention.
Thus, notably, the component elements of the game contained in the box or in any other packing could be arranged in various ways outside the one illustrated, and other elements may be added to the game, or alternately those elements which are not strictly necessary or which are readily available for the user can be omitted, since the only basic elements of this game are the thin strips of flexible and malleable material a book of separate sheets of outline drawings disposed in said box;
a mold and a bag of plasterlike powder disposed in said box for making porous supports;
at least one length of a thin strip of a flexible and malleable metallic material disposed in said box, the width of said at least one strip being several times greater than the thickness of said at least one strip;
a bottle containing a first relatively dilute glue disposed in said box, said glue being adapted to affix a section of said thin strip of flexible and malleable metallic material, which has been preshaped and cut to conform to a portion of a selected one of said outline drawings, edgewise to one of said porous supports; 1
with a smooth, high-gloss, enamellike finish.
2. The educational game of claim 1 wherein the combination further includes a plurality of porous sheetlike supports disposed in said box.
3. The educational game of claim 1 wherein the combination further includes scissors for cutting said thin strips to desired lengths and shaping means for conforming the shape of said thin strips to the shape of said selected outline drawing.
