CHRISTIAN SI-IOLL, OF MOUNT JOY, PENNSYLVANIA.
IMPROVED SASH-FASTENER.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 36,031, dated July 29, ISCQ.
To all whom, it may concern.-
Be it known that I, CHRISTIAN SHoLL, of Mount Joy, in the county of Lancaster and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and" useful Improvements in Window- Balances; and I dohereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description in the mortise when it is desirable to use a box.
This plate is provided near its center with a wheel or roller, a, which turns upon suitable journals having their bearings in the plate.

These screws are surrounded with coiled springs, which press against the plate and keep it out rmly against the screw-heads when the sash is not in position. When the sash is in the frame, the rollers run in the grooves in its edges and press the sash upon both sides. The sash when thus pressed slides up and down very easily and remains wherever it is placed. rllhe frame may shrink or the sash may shrink, but this roller can and will press the sash so that the sash will work easily and smoothly.
I do not claim the use of rollers pressing the edges of the sash; but,
I do claim- The arrangement oi the plate O, rollers a, screws x x, and springs m m, used in the boX in the frame, and in combination with the grooved sash, as and for the purpose specified.
