UNITED STATES PATENT rricn.
HENRY S. REYNOLDS, OF BROOKLYN, ASSIGNOR TO THE IRON GLAD MANUFACTURING COMPANY, OF NEXV YORK, N. Y.
WATERlNG-POT.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 359,889,datecl March 22, 1887.
Application filed May 18, 1886. Serial No. 202,510. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that l, HENRY S. REYNOLDS, a citizen of the United States, residing at Brooklyn, in the county of Kings and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvementsin Watering-Pots, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact descrip-.
. ary 4, 1881, I have described a watering-pot in which the spout is part of the cylinder; but in that invention these parts are made from two blanks, each forming portions of the spout and cylinder, and these two portions are then united by front and rear seams to form the combined spout and cylinder. By making the spout and cylinder out of, one piece of material, as in the present invention, I dispense with one seam, preferably the frontsca n, although otherwise the two constructions are in substance alike.
In the accompanying drawings, in which like parts are designated by similar letters of reference, Figure 1 is a diagram oft-he one-piece blank. Fig. 2 is a similar view of the blank partially formed up. Fig. 3 is a top edge view of the partially'fornied blank. Fig. 4 is aside view of the cylinder and spout; and Fig. 5 is a central vertical section taken on the line as a, Fig. 4. Fig. 6 is a side view ofa watering-pot embodying my invention.
A designates a blank, preferably of sheet metal and produced by any known means,
and in shape to form, when bent and united at B, the spout a and cylinder 1) of a wateringpot or similar vessel. When the blank is bent to form the cylinder and spout and the seam made, the spout will stand off at an angle from the cylinder, and the material between the cylinder and spout will form a brace or web, 0, for the spout and an inlet into the spout from the cylinder, the free edges 0 D of the material at this point being overlapped, grooved, or otherwise connected or united to make a tight joint or seam. This brace or web 0 adds greatly to the strength of the vessel, and prevents the spout from being bent toward or from the cylinder or wrenched off. To the cylinder thus formed may be atiached in any suitable manner a bottom, (Z, breast e, and one or more handles, ff, and the spout may be provided with a nozzle, g, to which a rose or other sprinkler may be reinovably attached.
hat I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. A wateringpot or other similar vessel whose body, spout, and intermediate brace or web are formed from a single piece of mate: rial, bent to shape and united at its ends, substantially as described.
2. Asheet-inet-al vessel wherein the spoutand the web or brace connecting and securing the spout to the body are composed of a single piece of metal, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand this 17th day of May, A. D. 1886.
HEXRY S. REYXOLDS.
