lllllllll' UNITED STATES DAVID, J. NYSEWANDER, OF OW'OSSO, MICHIGAN.
PUMP.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 359,516, dated March 15, 1887. Application ined september `13, 188s. seriaino. 213,444. (stimati.)
.To all whom it may concern).-A
Beit known that I, DAVID J. NYSEWANDER, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Owosso,.in the county of Shiawassee and State of Michigan, have invented certain new and useful Improvementsin Pumps; and I do hereby declare that the. following is a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, which will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, refer ence being had to the accompanying drawings, which form a part of this specification, and in Which- Figure 1 is a side view of my improved pump. Fig- 2` is al vertical sectional view of the same. Fig. 3 is a similar view taken at right angles to the former View. Fig. 4 is an inside view ot' one of the halves of the'casing or base, and Fig. 5 is a sectional detail view Showing the fulcrum-bracket applied to a force-pump.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the figures.
My invention has relation to hand-pumps; and it consists in the improved construction and combination of parts of a casing for a pump, as hereinafter more fully described and claimed. g
In the accompanying drawings, the letterA indicates the cylinder of the pump, which is provided with the suction-pipe B at its lower end and with the delivery-pipe C at its upper end, and this delivery-pipe extends into the lower spherical portion, D, of a reservoir, E, at the upper end, the spherical portion having a delivery-spout, F, projecting from one side. cal portion is formed with' a neck, G, into which the delivery-pipe is inserted, and two flanges, H H, having semicircular notches I in their meeting-edges, project from the inner sides of the halves J J of the casing or base for the pump. This casing incloses the upper portion of vthe delivery-pipe, and is formed with a flaring lower portion, K, with which it rests upon the cover Lof the well, and the upper ends of the halves are formed with segmental concave edges M, which bear against the lower portion of the spherical portion of the reservoir, supporting the same. The
rlhe lower end of the spheri' notched langes at the upper ends of the halves it with the notches between the spherical portion of the reservoir and the Hange N at the lower end of the neck, and similar flanges, O O, having notches P, project from the inner sides of the lower portions of the halves ofthe casing, clamping around the discharge-pipe.
Bolts Q, having nuts B, pass through perforations S in the halves of the casing, drawing them together, and the sides-of the halves of the casing are preferably formed with apertures T, formed by lattice-work, for the purpose of allowing fresh air to pass-down into the well.
rIhe upper end of the reservoir is formed with an inwardly-beveled upper end, Il, and a downwardly-projecting ange, V, projects from the edge of'a cap,\lV, and lits around this inwardly-beveled end, having beveled or inclined lips or projections Xupon its inner side, which correspond in their incline to the ineline or bevel of the end, and a set-screw, Y, passes through the ange at the opposite side to the projections and bears against the beveled end of the rescrvoir, binding the cap upon the same.
The cap is provided with an aperture, Z,
through which the piston-rod A passes, either l freely, as shown in the first four gures, or
passing through a packing-box, B, as shown in Fig. 5, and the fulcrum-bracket C forthe handle D projects upward from the cap at the side diametrically opposite to the beveled projection upon the inner side of the flange.
It will-be seen that by 'loosening the nuts upon the bolts connecting the halves of the casing or base the spout maybe turned to any side, as desired, and by loosening the bindingscrew in the cap the cap mayA be turned so as to bring the handle in any desired posit-ion with reference to the spout.
Having thus described my invention, I
claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent' of the United States-h In combination with a reservoir at the upper end of the discharge-pipe of a pump, formed with a rounded lower portion having the discharge-spout, two halves of a casing or base formed with a flaring lower portion and with inwardly-projecting lips having semicircular In testimony that I claiin the foregoing as my own I have hereunto aixed my signature 1o in presence of two Witnesses.
DAVID J. NYSElVANDER.
