Abstract

A toilet dispenser which is connected to a cistern flush pipe for dispensing disinfecting or cleansing material into the liquid passing into the said flush pipe, said dispenser having first and second chambers one of which provides a chamber in which liquid passing through the dispenser collects a charge of dissolved material from the other chamber.

Description

United States Patent PATENTE() JULI 315m Y TOILET DISPENSER SUMMARY oF Tris INVENTION This invention relates to a toilet dispenser which is attached to a flush pipe and is particularly useful in buildings where the toilets are fed with liquid from a common tank which may be used for other purposes.
The invention includes a dispenser for dispensing materials into a liquid line and comprising a combined inlet and discharge member to and from the dispenser, a member dividing the dispenser into first and second chambers, one of said chambers containing said materials and the other acting as a source of liquid for collecting a charge of dissolved material and discharging it into the fluid passing along said liquid line.
, The invention hereinafter described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawings in which:
FlG. l is a cross-sectional side elevation of one embodiment of the present invention.
FlG. 2 is a plan view of the device of FIG. 1.
FIG. 3 is a-perspective view of the device of FIG. 1, and
FlG. 4 is a cross-sectional side elevation of a further embodiment.
The dispenser of FIGS. l and 3 has first and second chambers or containers 11 and 12 and a nipple 13 is provided for attachment to a toilet flush pipe. lt is locked in Vposition by a lock nut 14. The chambers 11 and l2 are divided by a partition 15 which has upper and lower tubular members 16 and 17 extending into the first and second chambers respectively. vThe lower container 12 normally contains disinfectant or some other cleansing material 18 and apertures 19 and 20 are provided in the partition l so as to permit the lower tubular number 17 to communicate with the upper chamber 11 and the lower tubular member 17 to communicate with the upper chamber 16 respectively. A partition 2l is provided in the lower tubular member 17 to separate the apertures 19 and 20. The lower part of the dispenser is in the form of a container 22 and it has an inwardly stepped top part 23 which is threaded to fit inside a downwardly turned flange part 24 on the partition 14. The outside of this flange part 24 is threaded to fit inside the threaded lower end of the dispenser 25.
The nipple 13 is threaded into a tapped hole in the toilet flush water discharge pipe 26 and to assist in guiding the fluid into the dispenser to pick up a charge of disinfectant an L- shaped baffle 27 may be inserted.
When liquid drains out of the first chamber through the nipple 13, the liquid remaining inside the upper tubular member 16 drains into the lower chamber 12 forcing liquid therefrom up into the first chamber ll.
The dispenser 10 may have a deodorant chamber 28 which is slotted at 2.9 to provide for passage of deodorant vapors into the atmosphere around the dispenser. For convenience the top of the dispenser is provided with a threaded socket into which is threaded a cap nut 30 which is of the same thread pitch as the nipple so that when the dispenser is removed from the pipe 26 the cap nut 30 may be applied to the threaded hole therein to seal it.
ln the construction shown in FIG. 4 the main components are similar to that shown in FIG. 1--3 except that, the dispenser incorporates a single chamber in which is positioned a toilet dispensing device. This permits the housing 3l to be uncoupled from the top part 32 and again in the top there is provided the cap 30 to seal the opening in the flush pipe after the dispenser is removed. To assist in mounting this dispenser there may be a lug 3 which engages against the flush pipe. The end of the nipple is cut away at 34 to assist in guiding the fluid into the dispenser.
The dispenser 35 is a separate unit and may be removed and replaced as required.
What l claim is:
1. A dispenser fordispensing materials into a liquid line, said dispenser comprising a container having a combined inlet and outlet, a partition dividing the container into a lower chamber for holding the material to be dispensed and an upper chamber connected to said combined inlet and outlet, said partition being torrned` with iirst and second apertures therein connecting said first and second chambers, a tubular member encircling said first aperture and extending from said partition into said upper chamber, and
means defining separate tubular passageways encircling each of said apertures and extending from said partition into said lower chamber,
whereby, when said lower chamber and tubular member are filled with liquid, and liquid is drained from said upper chamber, through said combined inlet and outlet orifices, the pressure of liquid in said tubular member will force said liquid from said lower chamber through said second aperture into said upper chamber.
2. A dispenser as claimed in claim 1 in which said combined inlet and outlet pennits free flow from said dispenser to said liquid line in the direction of flow of said liquid line.
3. A dispenser as claimed in claim 2 in which said combined inlet and outlet contains an L-shaped member for guiding liquid from said line into said dispenser.
4. A dispenser as claimed in claim l containing a third chamber for holding a deodorant above said upper chamber.

Claims (4)

1. A dispenser for dispensing materials into a liquid line, said dispenser comprising a container having a combined inlet and outlet, a partition dividing the container into a lower chamber for holding the material to be dispensed and an upper chamber connected to said combined inlet and outlet, said partition being formed with first and second apertures therein connecting said first and second chambers, a tubular member encircling said first aperture and extending from said partition into said upper chamber, and means defining separate tubular passageways encircling each of said apertures and extending from said partition into said lower chamber, whereby, when said lower chamber and tubular member are filled with liquid, and liquid is drained from said upper chamber, through said combined inlet and outlet orifices, the pressure of liquid in said tubular member will force said liquid from said lower chamber through said second aperture into said upper chamber.
2. A dispenser as claimed in claim 1 in which said combined inlet and outlet permits free flow from said dispenser to said liquid line in the direction of flow of said liquid line.
3. A dispenser as claimed in claim 2 in which said combined inlet and outlet contains an L-shaped member for guiding liquid from said line into said dispenser.
4. A dispenser as claimed in claim 1 containing a third chamber for holding a deodorant above said upper chamber.
