UNITED STATES PATENT OEEICE.
JOHN S. HULL, OF BALTIMORE, MARYLAND.
HYDROCARBON COOKING-STOVE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 358.931, dated March 8I 1887. l
Application tiled June 24, 1884. Serial No. 135,859. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOHN S. HULL, a citizen of the United States` residing at Baltimore, in the State of Maryland, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Hydrocarbon Cooking-Stoves, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawings.
My invention relates to improvements in hydrocarbon cooking-stoves; and it consists of the arrangement by which the heat from the hydrocarbon-burner is conducted through and about the cooking utensils, as illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure l-is a vertical sectional view through the stove and utensils; Fig. 2, a top view of the stove with the utensils removed.
Similar letters refer to like parts throughout the several views.
The letter A designates the stove, which is provided with a heat or Haine duct, F, running centrally from one end of the top plate, a, to the other. rlhe said duct is provided with openings a, c, c5, and cf' for the cooking utensils, which, when removed, are replaced by suitable tight-fitting covers. In the duct is placed the water-back d and its pipes d and d2. thereby keeping them always in contact with the heat, which insures the heating ofthe water in the vessel D.
The under wall of the iiame-duct is provided with the opening c7, for the admission of the heat and llame from the burner B, situated thereunder, which permits the Haine to pass t-hrough the water-back d and to the dome or raised portion r ot' the top plate, a, which prevents it from passing` directly along the duct and directs it against the oven E and into the duct c, extending around the oven in one direction, as the partition s prevents it from passing but one way, from which (the duet e) it passes back into the duct F in the stove, along under the vessels placed thereover, and escapes at the far end, thereby utilizing the flame and heat from one burner to heat several vessels and the water in the water-back d.
The burner B is constructedon the self-generating principle, and consists of a cup, e, aA
generating body, c', a mixing-chamber, c2, to which is attached an enlarged one with a movable perforated top, 0*, whereby the iiame that is produced in the combustion-chamber is distributed. 4
rlhe burner B if; supplied with oil from the tank O, the said oil being forced to the burner and held n nder pressure by air Vsupplied from the pump h', the whole being fitted with suitable pipes and connected as illustrated, or in any of the well-known manners which are shown in several patents to me.
In operating the device the tank C is supplied with oil and sealed, and an air-pressure generated therein by the pump hf', by which the air under pressure passes through the oil and is thereby earbonized, from which it passes to the burner, where it is ignited and the flame produced, which passes to and around the oven in the manner set forth, and to the duct F, passing under and heating the vessel thereover, as set forth.
Having described my invention, what I wish to secure by United States Letters Patent is- 1. In a hydrocarbon cooking-stove, the combination ot' thc Vduct F, the dome fr, the Oven E, the duct e, and the partition s, for the purpose herein setforth.
2. In a hydrocarbon cooking-stove, the combination ot the burner B, the oil-tank C, suitable pipeconneet-ion between the two, the pump h', the duet F, provided with the openings for the cooking utensils, the oven E, and the dome r, arranged to ret-ard the heat under the oven, as set forth.
In testimony whereof I afx'my signatur-e in presence of two witnesses.
JOHN S. HULL.
