Abstract

THIS INVENTION CONSISTS OF A RECANGULAR CABINET CONTAINING A PLURALITY OF RECESSES THEREIN IN WHICH ARE LOCATED ROLLER CURTAINS, EACH CURTAIN HAS A DIFFERENT SURFACE SUCH AS A CHALKBOARD, CORK BOARD, MAGNETIC BOARD, AND SCREEN FOR THE RECEPTION OF PROJECTED PICTURES. THE AFORESAID CABINET IS MOUNTED ON THE TOP OF TWO RECATGULAR RIGID MEMBERS AGAINST WHICH THE AFORESAID CURTAINS REST WHEN UNROLLED FOR USE. EACH RIGID MEMBER IS HELD IN EQUAL AND PARALLEL SPACED RELATION TO EACH OTHER BY RIGID MEMBER WHICH IS SUPPORTED AT EACH END BY A VERTICALLY DISPOSED AND ADJUSTABLE TUBULAR SUPPORT MOUNTED ON WHEELS THAT PROVIDES MOBILITY FOR THE CLASSROOM BOARDS.

Skogquist ABSTRACT: This invention consists of a rectangular cabinet containing a plurality of recesses therein in which are located roller curtains. Each curtain has a different surface such as a chalkboard, cork board, magnetic board, and screen for the reception of projected pictures. The aforesaid cabinet is mounted on the top of two rectangular rigid members against which the aforesaid curtains rest when unrolled for use. Each rigid member is held in equal and parallel spaced relation to each other by a rigid member which is supported at each end by a vertically disposed and adjustable tubular support mounted on wheels that provides mobility for the classroom boards.

INVIi'NTOR WILLlAM E DAVIS CLASSROOM BOARDS It is the principal object of this invention to provide classroom boards of the character described that will provide a teacher a plurality of surfaces for classroom use merely by the pulling down of the desired surface which is in the form of a rolled curtain.
Another object of this invention is to provide classroom boards that will save a teacher considerable time in changing from chalkboard to picture screen or to any other form of classroom board during the course of a teaching day.
Still another object of this invention is to provide classroom boards of the character described that will keep all of the boards contained therein clean when not in actual use and thus increase the life of the boards.
These and other objects of this invention are more fully described hereinafter; reference being had to the accompanying drawing, in which:
FIG. 1 is a pictorial view of this invention,.
FIG. 2 is a sectional view of this invention, taken substantially along line 2-2 of FIG; 1, and viewed in the direction indicated by the arrows.
In the two views of this invention, like parts are indicated by like reference numbers.
The reference number 5 indicates the entire invention.
Directing ones attention to both FIGS. of the drawing, it is seen that the invention 5 consists of a horizontally disposed baseboard 6 that is rectangular, when viewed from the top, and which has a vertically disposed rectangular panel 7 secured to each longitudinal edge. The two panels 7 are in equal and parallel spaced relation to another and support a rectangular box 8 on the upper edges hereof. The aforesaid box 8 is in equal and parallel spaced relation to the baseboard 6. The box 8 is divided into four longitudinally disposed compartments 9, 10, 11, and 12 in which are located the rolled curtains. The aforesaid compartments of the box 8 are separated from one another by the centrally located and vertically disposed panel 13 as well as by the two horizontally disposed panels 14. These two last mentioned panels are only visible in FlG. 2 of the drawing since the aforesaid box 8 is provided with an end panel 15 at each end of the box, thereby totally iriclosing the box 8, as one can understand on examination of FIG. 1 of the accompanying drawing. The actual arrangement on the four rolled curtains in the compartmented box 8 is a matter of personal choice, However, for reasons of better understanding of this invention it will be assumed that 'a rolled curtain, 16 having a chalkboard surface, is located in compartment 9 while a rolled curtain 17, having a cork board surface, is located in compartment 10 and a roiled curtain 18 having a magnetic board surface, is located in compartment 11. Finally, is rolled curtain 19, having a picture screen surface, is located in compartment l2. All of the aforesaid rolls are spring-loaded and automatically keep the classboard rolled up until the outer edge 20 of each classboard, which projects out through an elongated opening in the side panels 21 of the box 8, is pulled down to the lower edge of one of the aforesaid rectangular panels 7.
All of the just described structure of this invention is sup ported on two vertically disposed tubular members 22 of which there is one at each end of the aforesaid baseboard 6. Each tubular member 22 is slidably mountedin a vertically disposed tube 23 that is mounted in the center of the horizontally disposed support 24 which is supported by a caster 25 or its equivalent at each end thereof.
A hand screw or lock 26, in each aforesaid tube 23, controls the vertical height of each tubular member 22, as will be understood by examination of the drawing. Gusset plates 27, on
each side of the upper end of each aforesaid tubular member 22, give lateral stability to the curtain supporting structure of this invention since the upper end of each gusset plate supports the underside of the aforesaid horizontally disposed panel 6.
If desired, one of the panels 7 can be a cork board, the other panel 7 can be a magnetic board and all of the curtains can be chalk boards. This would permit writing on one or more of the curtains in advance for use at the proper time.
The way in which this mventlon rs used 15 so ObVlOUS from examination of the accompanying drawing as to require no explanation in this specification. This invention can be constructed of wood, metal, and/or any other desired material.
While the accompanying drawing of this invention shows the structure to embody only four curtains, the device can be made to contain any desired number of curtains, and each curtain can be provided with any desired type of working surface.
This invention is subject to any and all changes and/or modifications in its design and construction that one may care to make in the same in so long as the changes and/or modifications fall within the scope and intent of the appended claims.
lclaim:
1. Classroom boards of the character described, comprising a horizontally disposed substantially rectangular box, the box having horizontally disposed slots extending substantially across opposed sides of said box, a pluralitypf rolled flexible classroom curtains rotatably mounted in said box with the free edge of each curtain extending through one of said slots, a vertically disposed rectangular panel extending vertically downward from each of said opposed sides, a horizontally disposed panel connecting the lower edges of said vertically disposed panels and vertically adjustable structure supporting the horizontally disposed panel, whereby said vertically disposed panels serve as backing panels for said curtains and the space between said vertically disposed panels and above said horizontally disposed panel can be used for storage of instructional material.
2. The invention of claim I wherein all of the said rolled curtains are spring-loaded so that they remain in a rolled position until pulled down over one of the said panels for use in the classroom.
3. The invention of claim 2, wherein one of the said rolled curtains is provided with a chalkboard surface; another of the said rolled curtains is provided with a cork board surface; another of the said rolled curtains is provided with a magnetic board surface; and still another of the said rolled curtains is provided with a picture screen surface.
4. The invention of claim 3, wherein the said structure is in the form of a vertically disposed tubular member on the underside of each end of the said horizontally disposed panel, and each said tubular member having its lower end supported by a vertically disposed tube that is mounted on a horizontally disposed support, and each vertically disposed tubular member having a gusset plate on each side thereof diametrically opposite one another, the top of each gusset plate being secured to the underside of the said horizontally disposed panel.
5. The invention of claim 4, wherein the said box, in which the said rolled curtains are located, is divided into a compartment for each curtain whose outer edge projects through an elongated opening in the side of the said box which is provided with a panel at each end thereof.
6. The invention of claim 5, wherein each of the two horizontally disposed supports is supported by a caster under each end thereof in order that the said invention may be moved from place to place.
