UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
GEORGE SEIBERT, OF ASHLEY, ILLINOIS.
COMBINED DINING-TABLE, DRESSING-CASE, WORK-STAND, 84o.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 358,486, dated March 1,1887.
I Application filed March 26, 1886. Serial No. 196,691. (No model.)
Be it known that I, GEORGE SEIBERT, a citizen of the United States, residing at Ash ley, in the county of Washington and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Combined Dining-Table, Dressing -Oase, WVork -Stand, and Writing- Desk; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawing, making a part of this specification, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon.
The object of the present invention is to provide an article of furniture which will combine a table, dressing-case, work-stand, and writing-desk; and it consists in the details of construction, substantially as shown in the drawing, and hereinafter described and claimed.
In the accompanying drawing, which represents a perspective view of my invention when the article is to be used as a dressingcase, A designates the stand adapted for use as a ladys work-stand or writing-desk, but, when found desirable, capable for use as a d ressing-case. V
The stand A is provided with suitable legs, a, which may have rollers or casters for convenience innioving the stand, and one or more drawers, b. To the ends of the stand, in the rear thereof, are stationary pins 0, with which engage hooks d, formed on longitudinal cleats B, of ornamental design, said hooks being near the ends of the cleats.
The cleats B are suitably connected to the under side of a table, 0, rectangular in shape, and legs D are pivoted to the inner sides of thecleats about the same distance from the ends thereof as the hooks d, but at the opposite end of the table, to the under side of which is connected a mirror, E.
When the article of furniture is in the form of a dressing-case, as shown in the drawing, the ends of the legs Drest on the stand A, to support the table 0, and the table, near its lower end, is braced by the back of the stand.
It should be noticed that the rear portion of the legs to beyond the uprights e are considerably longer than the front portion, so that when the table is in an upright position it will not overbalance the stand.
The rear top edge of the stand A is beveled, as shown at f, so that the table 0 can be pivoted close up to it and turn on its pivotal connection to bring the table to either a horizontal or vertical position.
A dressing-case of ornamental appearance is provided, as shown in the drawing, the legs of the table, which rest on the stand, adding to its appearance and finish, while the mirror is conveniently placed and attached to the table for persons to arrange their toilet.
When a table is desired for dining or other purposes, fthe legs are used as handles to bring the table to a horizontal position, (shown in' dotted lines,) the legs resting onthe floor to support one end of the table, the other portion thereof being supported by the top of the- -No. 54,140, for a convertible chair, and I do not claim, broadly, any feature disclosed by said patent.
I claim- The combined dining and dressing table herein described, consisting of the stand A at, having pivots c, the readily-detachable table 0, having slots d to receive said pivots, and the legs D, pivoted to said table and serving as legs to support the table or as ornamental braces to the dressing-case, the base-pieces a being longer upon the rear side of the standard e, to support the weight of the top 0 when used as a dressing-case, substantially as set forth.
In testimony that I claim the above I have hereunto subscribed my name in the presence of two witnesses.
GEORGE SEI'BERT.
