Abstract

PATENTED APR27 I9?! ATTdRNEY s CLIP MEANS FOR FOUNTAIN PENS This invention relates to a clip means for fountain pens. The invention has for its object to provide a clip means for fountain pens which is adapted to securely hold a fountain pen for example in a pocket of a waistcoat of a user to prevent it from falling from the pocket without the intention of the user.
Another object of this invention is to provide an improved clip means for fountain pens which is easy to manufacture and handle.
The accompanying drawing shows an embodiment of this invention, in which: FIG. 1 is a perspective view of a clip means according to this invention, a hook being shown pulled upwards; FIG. 2 is a vertical section of a clip means of the present invention, showing the hook being pushed downwards; FIG. 3 is a front view of the essential parts of the clip means according to the invention; FIG. 4 is a fragmentary sectional view showing a cap for a fountain pen; and FIG. 5 is a fragmentary sectional view showing the operation of the clip means according to the present invention.
Generally a fountain pen when not used outdoors is held in a pocket of a user with its clip means fixed on the edge of the pocket of a waistcoat and pressed against the cloth of the pocket on the side of the fountain pen holder by the resilient force of the slip so as to prevent the fountain pen from falling from the pocket. Due to weakness of the resilient force of the clip or larger than necessary interspace between the forward end of the clip and the cap surface it often occurs that the fountain pen falls from the pocket while the user carrying said fountain pen is in negligence. No matter how strong the force of the clip may be, it is quite usual to see the forward end of the clip and the cap surface open unintentionally thereby permitting the fountain pen to fall out of the pocket if the user frequently takes it in or out of the pocket.
The present invention provides a clip means which can avoid such unexpected fall of the fountain pen in the pocket no matter how much the user moves in violent manner of whatever posture he would take afier he has put it into his pocket with the clip means being fixed on the edge of the pocket.
in accordance with the present invention, there is provided a slidable member 2 on the upper back surface of the clip I fixed on one end of a cap 6 as shown in the drawing, said slidable member being capable of moving upwardly and downwardly between two vertically spaced positions. The slidable member 2 has a projection 5. Depending from the lowest end of the slidable member 2 is an elongated wire 4, the lowest free end of which is folded upwardly to form a hooked portion 3. The elongated wire 4 is also extended downwardly through a tube 8 and further hooked portion 3 is housed at all times in a baglike portion 11 at the lower end of the clip 1.
During the rising movement of the slidable member 2 the hooked portion is guided into a hole 7 provided on the side surface of the cap 6.
In the drawing, the slidable member 2 is shown embracing the clip 1 loosely with its wings so as to make the slidable member 2 slide upwardly and downwardly over a predetermined distance and a stopper 5' is integrally provided at the upper part of the slidable member. It will be understood that the stopper may be eliminated if the upper portion of the clip is provided with a longitudinal groove to connect the slidable member and said longitudinal groove with a small pin. In the figure, 5' represents a projection integrated with the slidable member 2 and projection 5 for assisting the upward movement of the slidable member 2. represents a hole provided on the upper portion of the clip at a portion 1' to serve for fixing the clip I with the upper end 6' of the cap 6.
The clip means according to the invention is constructed in such a manner that when the fountain pen is inserted into the pocket of the waistcoat and the clip 1 is fixed on the edge of the pocket the slidable member 2 is pushed up by projection 5, whereupon the hooked portion 3 gets out of the baglike portion 11 on the lower end of the clip, penetrating through the pocket cloth 9 during this rising movement, and the pointed end of which pierces through the hole 7 on the side surface of the cap 6 so hat the foun am pen will not get out of the pocket.
The fountain pen once secured by the clip means of the invention on the edge of the pocket may be taken out quite easily by slight pushing of the slidable member 2 with a finger thereby allowing the hooked portion 3 to come out of the pocket cloth 9 through the hole of the cap 6. The hooked portion 3 is then housed in the baglike portion 11 on the forward end of the clip so that the hooked portion will not give any damage to the finger tip.
The clip means according to the invention can ensure a desired fixing operation, is easy to handle and simple in construction therefore ensuring low cost of production, and readily fixable to any type of fountain pens.

A clip means for fountain pens, which comprises a slidable member movable upwardly and downwardly some distance on the upper back surface of a clip, a projection on said slidable member, a hooked portion formed on the lower end of a wire in a bent shape, said wire depending downwardly from the lower end of said slidable member, an upwardly folded end of said hooked portion being housed normally in a baglike portion at the lower end of the clip and passed through a hole on the side surface of a cap of a fountain pen during the rising movement of the slidable member.

Claims (1)

1. A clip means for fountain pens, which comprises a slidable member movable upwardly and downwardly some distance on the upper back surface of a clip, a projection on said slidable member, a hooked portion formed on the lower end of a wire in a bent shape, said wire depending downwardly from the lower end of said slidable member, an upwardly folded end of said hooked portion being housed normally in a baglike portion at the lower end of the clip and passed through a hole on the side surface of a cap of a fountain pen during the rising movement of the slidable member.
