Abstract

A substantially rigid bell is held by suction against a concrete form wall to position a fitting in the form of a housing snugly and sealingly fitted over the bell in place while the concrete is poured. Thereafter, the form is removed and the bell withdrawn from the fitting which remains in place in the hardened concrete body.

ATTORNLY DEVICE FOR HOLDING BUILT-1N FITTINGS This invention relates to a device for temporarily holding built-in fittings on shuttering or falsework used for the erection of concrete buildings or structural parts thereof, having a capsule or bell-shaped hollow body and means for generating a vacuum in the cavity of the hollow body lying against the shuttering.
The device according to the invention differs from devices of the type known heretofore in that the hollow body is of nondeformable design and its rim is provided with an elastic sealing body adapted to be laid against the shuttering.
As compared with the known adhesive boxes of rubber or the like, the design according to the invention has the advantage that it is not deformed upon pouring of the concrete, but nevertheless permits an airtight fit against the shuttering as a result of the elastic sealing body located on the rim, this sealing bodya part which by experience is subject to fairly rapid wean-being advantageously of interchangeable or replaceable design, which makes practically reuse of the adhesive capsule possible.
The accompanying drawing shows by way of example three embodiments of the invention; in the drawings:
FIG. 1 is an axial section of a first form of the device for holding built-in fittings on shuttering;
FIG. 2 is an axial section through a second form of the device for holding built-in fittings on shuttering;
FIG. 3 shows a detail of FIG. 2; and
FIG. 4 is an axial section through a third form.
Referring more particularly to FIG. I, the device shown for holding built-in fittings on forms, shuttering or falsework as used for the erection of concrete buildings or structural parts thereof includes a bell 1 of rubber or an elastic synthetic material which is lined with a bush 2 of steel or other metal to stabilize its form against pressure from the outside. The elastic sealing edge 4 of hell I intended for fitting against shuttering 3 projects beyond the rim of bush 2 both in the axial direction and in the radial direction of the bell and has on its periphery an annular shoulder 4 as a support for the rim of an equipment box 5 (shown in FIG. 2) serving as a built-in fitting. Around the periphery of bell l are integral sealing ribs 6 adapted to ensure a well-sealing fit for the equipment box 5 to be placed over rubber bell 1. Fitted in the center of the arch of the bell and coaxial with the bell itself is a valve 7 which it is expedient to make interchangeable. The threaded end of valve 7, which projects outwards from hell 1. has screwed thereon a nut 8 which, when tightened, presses the rubber of bell 1 surrounding the valve firmly against the valve body 7. A rubber cap 9 is mounted on the outer end of valve 7 to protect same against fouling.
The device as in FIG. 1 is pressed with its sealing rim 4 against the shuttering 3 at the point at which the equipment box 5 (FIG. 2) is to be concreted in. Upon removal of the protective cap 9, the suction pipe of an aspiration unit is connected to the valve. By putting this unit into operation, a vacuum is generated in the cavity 10 of bell 1,2 so that the latter is tightly retained against shuttering 3. When the bell has been mounted and protective cap 9 has been fitted, the equipment box shown in FIG. 2 is pushed onto the holding device. With shuttering 3 thus provided with the necessary built-in fittings, the concrete can be poured.
The device illustrated in FIG. 2 also has a bell 1 of rubber or an elastic synthetic material which is provided on the inside with a bush 2 of steel or other metal to stabilize its shape. The elastic rim 4 of rubber bell l is adapted to be laid against the inside of shuttering 3; it projects beyond bush 2 in the axial direction and likewise forms an annual shoulder 4' projecting around the periphery like a flange as a support for the rim of equipment box 5. When the device is applied to shuttering 3. an elastic washer 11 having a perforated sievelike inner portion 12 and an outer ring 13 is placed therebetween. The outer ring has a coating of dry or self-sealing adhesive on one or both sides. The use of washer 11 offers the advantage that it may be used for markin the places at which the holding devices are to be fitted, t ese washers being first adhered to the shuttering 3 at the points in question. When using washers with an adhesive on one side only, they are gummed on sealing rim 4 of rubber bell 1 in order to protect it.
In the form shown in FIG. 2 a vacuum ball 14 is used for vacuum generation, being placed in the cavity of bell 1,2 before the device is laid against shuttering 3. Distribution of the vacuum through the cavity of the bell with simultaneous pressing of the device against the shuttering is effected by smashing or perforating the ball. This is done with a striker pin 16 which is guided in a hermetically sealed slide inside a guide body 15 which passes coaxially through bell 1,2 and is tightly connected thereto. Upon removal of protective cap 9, pin 16 can be driven in with a hammer and the ball thus smashed or perforated.
The device shown in FIG. 4 has a capsule-shaped metal hollow body 21 on whose rim 22 is mounted an interchageable sealing ring 23. This elastic sealing ring, as in the example shown in FIG. 1, has an annual shoulder 23' as a support for the metal bell 21 and radially projecting sealing ribs 23". This design permits a perfect fit of the equipment box 5 on the adhering capsule 21,23 and enables the equipment box to be reliably sealed at the same time against the entry of grout. Fitted coaxially with the capsule in the middle of the dome thereof is an insert 24 provided with a valve 7 permitting connection to the suction pipe of an aspiration unit, as in FIG. 1. The air is extracted from the capsule after the device has been fitted on the shuttering.
The device described with reference to FIG. 4 may also be designed for accepting a vacuum ball as in FIG. 2 and is then provided with device for smashing or perforating the vacuum ball.
Iclaim:
1. An assembly for anchoring a fitting in a concrete body cast in a form having at least one form wall, comprising a rigid nondeformable bell having a mouth surrounded by an elastic sealing rim adapted to be applied against an inner surface of said wall; means for evacuating the interior of said bell to retain the same against said wall; a concave body constituting said fitting and rcleasably mounted on said bell; and cooperating means on said bell and said'fitting forming a press-fitted circumferentially sealed junction therebetween whereby said bell can be removed from said concave body by simple withdrawal transverse to said wall upon the anchoring v of the concave body in concrete cast therearound.
2. The assembly defined in claim 7 wherein said bell comprises a metallic shell anchored to said rim, said rim is composed of an elastomeric material, and said cooperating means includes elastically deformable circumferential ridges formed on an external surface of said rim and engageable with the inner surface of said concave body and an outwardly extending annular ledge formed on said rim and abutting an edge of said concave body.
3. The assembly defined in claim 7 wherein said bell comprises an outer elastomeric body formed unitarily with said rim and an inner metal shell lining said elastomeric body and terminating short of said rim.
4. The assembly defined in claim 7 wherein said rim has an annular surface confronting said wall and parallel thereto, and a sealing disc substantially coextensive with said annular surface and spanning the mouth of said bell, said disc having a pressure-adhesive face bendable to said wall and extending over an annular zone on the disc substantially coincident with said surface and a fluid-penneable web filling the space surrounded by said zone.
5. The assembly defined in claim 7 wherein said bell is formed with an outwardly extending tube structure connectable with a suction source.
6. The assembly defined in claim 7 wherein the means for evacuating said bell comprises a vacuum vessel received within said bell and externally operable means for piercing said vessel.

Claims (6)

1. An assembly for anchoring a fitting in a concrete body cast in a form having at least one form wall, comprising a rigid nondeformable bell having a mouth surrounded by an elastic sealing rim adapted to be applied against an inner surface of said wall; means for evacuating the interior of said bell to retain the same against said wall; a concave body constituting said fitting and releasably mounted on said bell; and cooperating means on said bell and said fitting forming a press-fitted circumferentially sealed junction therebetween whereby said bell can be removed from said concave body by simple withdrawal transverse to said wall upon the anchoring of the concave body in concrete cast therearound.
2. The assembly defined in claim 7 wherein said bell comprises a metallic shell anchored to said rim, said rim is composed of an elastomeric material, and said cooperating means includes elastically deformable circumferential ridges formed on an external surface of said rim and engageable with the inner surface of said concave body and an outwardly extending annular ledge formed on said rim and abutting an edge of said concave body.
3. The assembly defined in claim 7 wherein said bell comprises an outer elastomeric body formed unitarily with said rim and an inner metal shell lining said elastomeric body and terminating short of said rim.
4. The assembly defined in claim 7 wherein said rim has an annular surface confronting said wall and parallel thereto, and a sealing disc substantially coextensive with said annular surface and spanning the mouth of said bell, said disc having a pressure-adhesive face bondable to said wall and extending over an annular zone on the disc substantially coincident with said surface and a fluid-permeable web filling the space surrounded by said zone.
5. The assembly defined in claim 7 wherein said bell is formed with an outwardly extending tube structure connectable with a suction source.
6. The assembly defined in claim 7 wherein the means for evacuating said bell comprises a vacuum vessel received within said bell and externally operable means for piercing said vessel.
