Abstract
1431465 Pipe joints; pressure resisting pipe covers etc.; pipe closures H-M TRAUPE 14 Nov 1973 [15 Nov 1972] 52805/73 Headings F2G and F2P [Also in Divisions E1-E2] A device for mounting in the outlet of an underfloor or wall-concealed duct, e.g. a pipe cap &c., comprises two axially aligned spaced clamping members drawn towards each other and each having a clamping surface at least one of which is inclined, a multi-section or slit gripper between the clamping surfaces being expanded radially to engage frictionally in the outlet. In one form, an opening 2, Fig. 1, drilled in a concrete or plaster floor 3 receives two clamp rings 7, 8 pulled towards each other by tightening screws 9 so that a split spring steel ring 11 is expanded radially to grip the surface of the opening. A cover 1 is screwed to radially inwards directed projections 6, Fig. 2, inside the clamp ring 8. Holes 13 in the cover 1 allow access to the screws 9, and a peripheral flange 4 rests on the floor 3. In another form, a pipe socket 16, Fig. 3, extending upwards from a pipe 15 buried beneath a concrete or plaster floor 3, receives a similar pair of clamp rings 7, 8, the inwardly directed lip 18 of a spigot pipe 17 latching beneath the rim of the upper clamp rim. Screws 9 are tightened to expand a split spring steel ring 11 to grip the inside of the pipe socket 16. A plug 20 is temporarily inserted into the open end of the spigot pipe 17. Sealing compound is now poured into a space 19 around the spigot pipe 17, the plug 20 preventing sealing compound splashing into the buried pipe 15. The plug 20 is removed, and the spigot pipe 17 can then be attached to various installations. Instead of the circular opening 2 shown, the opening may have a number of separate flat faces; the split-ring is then provided in the form of a corresponding number of straight elements, retained in position between two clamp members by a surrounding rubber band. The split ring &c. may have projections on its outer surface to increase its grip in the opening or socket.
