- HORSE'POWER, No. 357,212. Patented Feb. s, 1887 I 1- 1 .1 Wm w z" D f a i a 14 I a, If m1 0 J a ax; f 1 e 5% v H ij c o B A UNITED STATES PATENT OFFIC BENJAMIN A. LOMB RD, or STOCKTON, CALIFORNIA.
HORSE-POWER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 357,212, dated February 8, 1887.
Application filed April 20, 1886. Serial No. 199,496. (No model.)
' specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawing.
The figure is a side elevation of a horse-' power pumping apparatus and frame, showin the features ,of my invention.
The object of'my invention is to construct a combined horse-power for pumping apparatus that will admit of a number of pumps being operated by the same motor.
The main frame of my apparatus consists of the foot-pieces B, the standards 0, united at i their tops by cross-pieces, and the tank-supporting cross-beams B. The standards 0 are secured at their-lower ends to outer ends of foot-pieces B, and the outer ends of the beams B are secured to the standards 0.
The shape of the above frame is that of a cross, the horizontal beams being connected together at a center.
The horse power is supported upon a stand, K,'within the frame-work last described. This stand K has located at proper intervals on its top travelers e and a center sleeve, cl. Upon the travelers e and sleeve dis seated the horsepower J, itsbottom rim traversing the travelers c and its center flange, c, engaging with andtraversing the rim of the sleeve 01. The top rim, a, of the horse-power is corrugated. Turning levers I) extend outwardly from the rim of the horse-power.
A pipe, I, isinserted in the well and has an enlarged head, H. Horizontal pipes G radiate from the head H and have connected to them vertical pump-cylinders D, upon which rollers F engaging with the surface of the cor- V rugated rim a, the weight of the pitmen F and rollers F keeping the rollers steady on the rim to.
The tank A is seated upon and at the center of the cross-beams B, the discharge-nozzles of x the vertical pipes D being located over the rim. The pipe [is inserted through the centers of flange c and sleeved and an opening at the connection of footpiece B,
To operate the above-described apparatus, horses are attached to the levers 1), setting the horsepower in motion. The corrugated rim a imparts a vertical motion to the pitmen F and levers E, setting the plungers ofthe pumps in motion, raising the water from the Well through the pipes I H G D and cylinder D, and discharging it into the tank A.
I am aware that some of the features I have described are old; but;
What I claim as new and of my invention 1s The combination of the frame 13 B O, the stand K e d, and the horse-power having the series of inclines 0, adapted for the operation through rollers F of the series of pitmen and pumppistons, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
I BENJAMIN A. LOMBARD.
