Abstract

A mobile drill-borer for combined boring, drilling and sampling by which the boring can be changed to drilling and vice versa in a single operation. The borer and the drill are prior known and fitted on a chassis slidable to and fro transversally between two end positions on a mobile carriage. Both the borer and the drill can be turned in the vertical plane by hydraulic cylinders. For transportation the borer is turned to a horizontal position. At least the borer and the drill have a common power source, for instance a compressor provided with a separate engine or connected to the engine of the carriage.

Purser Attorney-John Lezdey ABSTRACT: A mobile drill-borer for combined boring, drilling and sampling by which the boring can be changed to drilling and vice versa in a single operation. The borer and the drill are prior known and fitted on a chassis slidable to and fro transversally between two end positions on a mobile carriage. Both the borer and the drill can be turned in the vertical plane by hydraulic cylinders. For transportation the borer is turned to a horizontal position. At least the borer and the drill have a common power source, for instance a compressor provided with a separate engine or connected to the engine of the carrlage.
MOBILE DRILL-BORER BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION 1. Field of the Invention This invention relates to a mobile drill-borer for combined boring, drilling and sampling.
2. Description of the Prior Art For a long time, the need has been felt for a sampling device able to move across country and adaptable to different SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION The object of the present invention is an efficient mobile device by which all these operationsboring, drilling and sampling-can be performed using a single machine so that, in all positions and on all slopes, it will be possible first to bore a hole in earth or rock by stroke boring and then continue it immediately by rotary drilling once the hole has been fitted with a protective pipe.
According to the invention the boring device and drilling device are fitted, spaced apart, transversally to the direction of movement of the carriage, that the chassis is moved transversally between two end positions on the carriage in such a way that the operation is changed from boring to drilling in a single movement, and that at least the boring and drilling devices have a common power source.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWING One advantageous embodiment of a mobile drill-borer according to the invention is described below with reference to the accompanying drawings. FIG. 1 is a side view of the drillborer and FIG. 2 a rear end view of the same device.
DESCRIPTION OF THE PREFERRED EMBODIMENT No. l in FIG. 1 is the carriage of the drill-borer and 2 its chassis. No. 3 is the borer, 4 the chain transmission of the borer, 5 its driving mechanism, 6 a bore retaining device fitted at the other end of the boring device, and 7 a support used for holding the borer in position for transportation. The borer is fitted on a cradle 8 (FIG. 2) attached by a ring 9 (FIG. 2), to one end of an arm 10, the other end of which is hinged on a shaft 11. No. 12 is the hydraulic cylinder used to turn the borer in the vertical plane. No. 13 (FIG. 2) is the drill and 14 its head. No. 15 in FIGS. 1 and 2 is the drill support. The rotation speed of the head can be changed by means of gears 16. N0. 17 is the driving mechanism of the drill and No. 18 in both drawings are pillars supporting the drill. The support 15 is moved along two rails 19 by a hydraulic cylinder 20. No. 21 in FIGS. 1 and 2 are the ground-support feet. The drill is turned on its axis by a hydraulic cylinder 22 (FIG. 1).
The preferred embodiment presented in FIGS. 1 and 2 is fitted on a mobile carriage 1, which can advantageously be self-propelling on rubber tracks. Fitted transversally on the carriage 1 are two parallel rails 19, at a suitable distance from each other. The chassis 2 is fitted by bearing pedestals on the two rails 19 in such a way that it can slide to and fro transversally between two end positions. According to the invention, two devices are fitted to the chassis 2: a borer and a drill. The borer is prior known. It comprises a boring mechanism 3, transmission chain 4 to raise and lower the boring mechanism 3, driving mechanism 5 and bore retaining device 6 fitted at the other end of the chain transmission. The drill is also prior known, comprising a drilling mechanism 13, rotating head 14, support 15 turning in a vertical plane, pillars l8, gears 16 and drill engine 17.
Both the borer and the drill can be turned in the vertical plane so that, in all positions and on all slopes, a hole in earth or rock begun with stroke boring can rapidly be continued with rotary drilling.
For transportation, the borer 3-6 is held in a horizontal position so that it lies on the support 7. It is fitted to one end of the arm 10 by means of a cradle 8 and ring 9. The other end of the arm 10 turns on a shaft 11 fitted to the rear end of the sliding chassis 2 transversallyto the direction of movement of the carriage 1. The borer 3-6 is turned from its horizontal to its vertical position by a hydraulic cylinder 12 through an angle 3 which can advantageously be 0-105". l3--The drill 13- 18 can also be turned in the vertical plane. The lower part of the support 15 is turned on the shaft 11 by a hydraulic cylinder 22, one end of which is attached to the upper part of the support 15. To the vertical rear end of the chassis are fitted two support pillars 18, which carry the head 14 of the drill 13. The drill is driven by either a hydraulic or a pneumatic engine 17, which rotates the head at the desired speed via a prior known system of gears 16. For transportation, the drill is turned to a substantially vertical position and its turning angle acan advantageously be 030.
In this invention, at least the borer and the drill have a common power source, this being compressor (not shown) if the power source of the drill drive mechanism 17, boring mechanism 3 and chain drive mechanism 5 is compressed air. The compressor can be provided with a separate engine or connected to the engine that drives the rubber tracks.
A liquid pump can also be connected to the crankshaft of the compressor engine to enable the rubber tracks 1 and other devices, except for the borer, to be driven hydraulically. In this case, all the devices would have a common power source.
We claim:
1. A mobile drill-borer for combined boring, drilling and sampling, comprising:
a mobile carriage;
a chassis on said mobile carriage adaptable for transversal slidable movement between two end positions;
a shaft fitted to the rear end of said chassis extending in the direction of movement of said chassis;
a boring device pivotably attached to the shaft;
a drilling device pivotably attached to the shaft and spaced apart from the boring device so that the operation is changed from either the boring to drilling operation or drilling to boring operation in a single movement in all boring-drilling directions, at least the boring and drilling devices having a common power source, and means for turning said boring device and said drilling device in the vertical plane whereby both the boring and drilling devices can be turned in the vertical plane so that after a boring operation the drilling operation can be continued at the same location.

Claims (1)

1. A mobile drill-borer for combined boring, drilling and sampling, comprising: a mobile carriage; a chassis on said mobile carriage adaptable for transversal slidable movement between two end positions; a shaft fitted to the rear end of said chassis extending in the direction of movement of said chassis; a boring device pivotably attached to the shaft; a drilling device pivotably attached to the shaft and spaced apart from the boring device so that the operation is changed from either the boring to drilling operation or drilling to boring operation in a single movement in all boring-drilling directions, at least the boring and drilling devices having a common power source, and means for turning said boring device and said drilling device in the vertical plane whereby both the boring and drilling devices can be turned in the vertical plane so that after a boring operation the drilling operation can be continued at the same location.
