BY {$60M ATTORNEYS TUNDlSl-I FOR CONTINUOUS CASTING MACHINES This invention relates to continuous casting machines and, more particularly, has reference to tundishes for these machines.
The proposed invention can be utilized in continuous casting machines utilizing a vertical, horizontal and curved mold.
Known at present are tundishes for continuous casting machines which comprise a shell and a bottom with horizontal supporting lugs for positioning the tundish above a mold.
Such a construction of a tundish calls for a bulky arrangements for setting the tundish above the mold. This makes it difficult to service the mold area and quickly replace the tundish if necessary.
An object of the invention is to provide an easily replaceable tundish.
Another object of the invention is to provide a tundish which insures convenient servicing of the mold area.
These and other objects are attained by providing a tundish which, according to the invention, has on one side supporting members for cantilever suspension of the tundish, said members taking up the weight of the tundish when filled with molten metal and the tilting moment created by this weight.
The invention will be further described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which:
FIG. 1 is a general view of the tundish according to the invention (side view);
FIG. 2 is a general view of the tundish taken on arrow A in FIG. 1, without the rotary lifting table.
The tundish comprises a shell 1 (FIGS. 1 and 2), a bottom 2 with horizontal supporting lugs 3 and a cover 4.
The upper and bottom portions of the tundish at one side of the shell are provided with supporting members. The supporting members of the upper portion are made as hooks 5 while those of the bottom portion are fashioned as abutments 6. The above-described supporting members provide cantilever suspension of the tundish on a lifting rotary table 7 of the continuous casting machines.
To control the stream of molten metal poured from the tundish into a mold, the other side wall of the tundish is equipped with a lever stopper mechanism consisting of a stopper 8, a yoke 9, a slider 10 and a lever 11 rotating about the pivotaxle 12.
Such construction of the tundish provides for convenient servicing of the mold area and quick replacement of the tundishes.
We claim:
1. A tundish for continuous metal casting plants comprising a shell for containing molten metal; means for covering said shell; stopper means for selectively controlling the rate and amount of molten metal removal from the tundish, said stopper means including an actuating mechanism located on one of the lateral sides of said shell; upper support means positioned on another lateral side of said shell adapted to coact with a lifting means for supporting the tundish in cantilever fashion; and lower support means positioned on the same lateral side as said upper support means adapted to abut the lifting means to prevent tilting of the tundish.
2. A tundish as claimed in claim 1 wherein said actuating mechanism comprises a lifting lever, a slide operatively connected between said lever and one end of a yoke, the other end being connected to the stopper, such that when said lever is lifted, so is the slide, yoke and stopper.
3. A tundish as claimed in claim I which comprises a plurality of covers and stopped means.
4. A tundish as claimed in claim 1 wherein said upper means is at least one hook; said lower support means is an abutment; and said other lateral side is opposite said one lateral side.
5. A tundish as claimed in claim 4 and in combination with the lifting means which comprises a rotary lifting table having at least one upper member for coacting with said hook and lower abutment means for coacting with said abutment.

2. A tundish as claimed in claim 1 wherein said actuating mechanism comprises a lifting lever, a slide operatively connected between said lever and one end of a yoke, the other end being connected to the stopper, such that when said lever is lifted, so is the slide, yoke and stopper.
3. A tundish as claimed in claim 1 which comprises a plurality of covers and stopped means.
4. A tundish as claimed in claim 1 wherein said upper means is at least one hook; said lower support means is an abutment; and said other lateral side is opposite said one lateral side.
