Description

- (No Modeli) J. SHEA.
HAT HANGING HOOK.
Patented Jan 4, 1887.
N. PETERS. Pncwulho whe Washington. I16,
UNITED STATES JAMES SHEA, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
PATENT OFFICE. I
HAT-HANGING HooK.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 355,564, dated January 4, 18& 7.
Application filed June 26, 1886.
To aZZ whom, it may concern.-
Be it known that I, JAMES SHEA, of New York, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Hat-Hooks; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the invention,
.on, which form a part of this specification.
My invention has for its object to provide a novel and simplified device for hanging hats,
v caps, or other light articles of wearing-apparel,
the said device being designed for permanent attachment to the hat or other article, and capable of ready use at all times.
To these ends my invention consists, essentially, of a metallic plate having penetratingprongs for attaching the same to the article of clothing, and provided with a folding arm having a sharp projecting point for suspending said article of clothing to any desired place, all as will be hereinafter fully described, and pointed out in the claim.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 represents a perspective view of my complete device; and Fig. 2, a vertical section of the same, with a portion of a hat shown in dotted lines, the brim being represented with the hook attached ready for use. Figs. 3 and 4 are detail views.
Similar letters of reference indicate like parts in all the figures.
In carrying out my invention the frame of my improved device is preferably composed of a metallic plate, A, rectangular in form,
and provided at each end or corner with a pro j ecting point or spur, a, adapted'to be forced through the lining or band of the hat, orthrough other light articles of wearing-apparel, and clinched upon the reverse side thereof, to se cure the metallic frame firmly in position.
Upon the front of the frame is provided a Serial $0,206,330. (No mcdel.) I
thin metallic sliding plate, B, having its upper edge turned up at right angles to form a thumb-piece, b, for operating the Same, the
' sharp projecting point orspur, 0, while a suitable curved depression, f, upon the rear of the plate A presses upon the inner end of the folding arm 0, to hold the same in either an open or a closed position.
In the operation of my invention the deviceis affixed to a hat, cap, or other article of wearing-apparel by means of the prongs a, and when it is desired to hang or suspend the said article the thumb-piece b is drawn upward, causing the folding arm 0 to project downwardly at right angles to the plate A, the sharp projecting point e of said arm being forced into the woodwork of church, house, or
other place where it is desired to temporarily suspend the said article of clothing.
Having thus described my invention, I claimas new and useful A hat-hook consisting of a frame having rear attaching-prongs, a central curved depression, curved side projecting guides, a slotted and curved sliding plate adapted to move within said guides, and a folding projecting arm extending loosely through said slot into the said central depression, substantially as set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses. D
JAMES SHEA.
