NITE STATES PATENT OFFICE.
WVILLIAM H. HAZZABD, OF EASTON, ASSIGNOR OF ONE-HALF TO WILLIAM A. OLABK, OF PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA.
RACK FOR HOLDlNG AND EXHIBITING WALLPAPER,SHADES,&C.
SPECIFICATION forming part tr Letters Patent No. 354,058, dated December 7, 1886.
Application filed July 8, 1886. Serial No. 207,409.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, \VILLIAM H. 'HAZZARD, a citizen of the United States, residing at Easton, in the county of Northampton, State of Pennsylvania, haveinvented anew and useful Improvementin Racks for Holding and EX- hibiting \Vall-Paper, Shades, &c., which improvement is fully set forth in the following specification and accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 represents a rear elevation of arack Fig. 2 represents an end elevation thereof. Fig. 3 represents an end elevation of the rack in folded condition.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in the several figures.
form, all as will be hereinafter fully set forth.
Referring to the drawings, A B represent two frames, which are hinged together at the top, whereby they may be spread apart, forming a broad base, as in Fig. 1, or folded, as in Fig. 3.
0 represents a frame, which is pivoted to the sides of the frame B by means of straps D, so that the frame may be placed in upright position atthe top of said frame B, the bottom cross-bar of the frame 0 resting against the top cross bar, B, of the frame A, whereby said frame O is held in operative position, forming an extension of the frames A B, as shown in Figs. 1 and 2.-
In the central vertical bar ofthe frame B is a slot, E, and pivoted to the central bar of the frame A is a serrated dog. F, which is adapted to engage with the bottom wall of said slot E, and thus lock the frames when in spread posi tion.
Pivoted to the uprights of the frame A are arms G, and connected with the uprights of the frame B are stirrups G, it being noticed that the arms rest on said stirrups and are of such length that they project beyond the frame B and form supports for a roll of wall-paper or other material, as shown in Fig. 2.
The bottom cross-bar, A, and middle cross- (No model.)
bar, A", of the frame A are grooved on the sides facing each other, forming ways for the connection and support of a laterally-extensible frame, H, which consists of sections H H H which are hinged together, so that the sections H H may be placedin uprightposition and the section Hin horizontal position, thus forming somewhat of a table for the support of a patternbook, sample-card, 850. The section H is provided with a loop, J, of wire or other material, which is pivoted or hinged to the sides of said section, so that it maybe folded when not in use, and when in use it is unfolded orin upright position, so thatabook, &c., may be placed under the same, and thus held down on the table and prevented from displacement. \Vhen service of the rack is not required, the section II is folded against the section I-I,,and the two sections folded toward or against the section H,and the frame H as folded is moved to full extent between the frames A B.
The frame 0 is folded down on the frame B, the arms G and-dog F are thrown up and folded against the frame A, and the two frames are closed, the parts being in position shown in Fig. 3, whereby the device is compactly folded for purposes of handling, storage, packing, and transportation.
The frame 0 is prevented from opening by means of blocks K, which are secured to the frame B in such posit on that the cross piece of said frame when the latter is folded abuts tightly against said blocks.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letter Patent, is
1. A rack having the frames A and B hinged together at one end, thefrarne O, pivoted by straps to sides of frame B, and having its bottom cross-bar abutting against the top crossbar of the frame A, all substantially as described.
2. A rack having the frames A and B hinged together at one end, the frame 0, pivotally connected to the frame B, the said frame B being provided with s ops K, locking said frame G C are folded, all substantially as described.
in folded position whensaid frames A, B. and
together, the frame A having its center'and 10 bottom cross bars grooved on their facing sides, the frame H, formed of hinged sections, forming a table, and laterally movable in said 3. Arack having the frames A and B hinged together at one end, the frame A having its central vertical bar provided with a pivoted serrated dog, and its side bars with pivoted 5 arms, the frame B having a central vertical grooves, all substantially as described.
.slot, E, and stirrupsG, the latter secured to the side bars of the said frame, all substan- Witnesses: tially as and for the purpose set forth. JOHN A. WIEDERsHEIM,
4. Araek having the frames A and B hinged A. P. GRANT.
' WM. H. HAZZARD.
