Description
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
WIMPRovED FOUNTAIN BLAeKlNe-BRUSH.
Specification forming partof Letters Patent No. 35,316, dated May 20, i862.
To a/ZZ whom it may concern:
Be it knownl that I, JOHN R. HOWARD, of the city and Vcounty of `Woreester, State of Massachusetts, have invented certain vnew and useful Improvements in Brushes; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, Clear, and eXaot description of the construction and operation of the same, due reference bein g had to the accompanying drawings, in Whieh-- Figure I is a4 perspective view of a brush with my improvements. Fig. 2 is alongitudinal section of the same.
The same letters indicate the same parts in both.
The object of my invention is to provide a convenient means `of supplying blaoking to the brush and regulating it at the will of the operator.- To these ends its nature consists in furnishing a reservoir for the blaeking and providing it with a self-closing apparatus connecting it to the brush to regulate the supply.
In the drawings, A is the brush for applying the blaoking.
B is the polishing-brush.
C is a reservoir with an opening at D,(with a cap) that it may be easily filled.
F is a tube connecting C to A and having a stop-oook, G, between them, to which is attaohed the rod I, which has a pallet or thumbpiece, J, to operate by.
Blaeking leasing the pressure, the spring K immediately closes the reservoir, when the brush A isf ready to use in the usual Way. The spring holding the faucet closed as set by the stops keeps the blacking safe from injury from eontact with the air and always ready for use.
I am aware that brushes have been made with reservoirs attached. These I do not Claim.
What I Claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The above-desoribed blaekingebrush, oon` sisting of the brushes, the reservoir, and the self-closing apparatus when constructed and operating substantially as set forth.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand in the presenoeof two Witnesses.
JOI-IN R. HOVARD.
