Description

P. GOEHRING.
WITNESSES INVENTOB I v I n. PETERS, {How-umuempum' wgsumm'on. 0, cl
UNITED STATES PHILIP GOEHRING, OF RIOHWOOD, OHIO.
IMPROVEMENT IN FOUNTAIN-PENS- Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 186,723, dated January 30, 1877; application filed December 30, 1876.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, PHILIP GOEHRING, of
Richwood, Union county, Ohio, have invented a new and Improved Fountain-Pen, of which the following is a specification:
The figure is a side View of my improved pen, partly in section, to show the construction.
The object of this invention is to furnish an improved pen, which shall be so constructed as to carry its own supply of ink, so as to relieve the writer from the annoyance and loss of time occasioned by the necessity of dipping the pen in an inkstand every few words for a new supply of ink.
The invention consists in an improved fountain-pen, formed by the combination of the tube or feeder with the holder, the inner tube or hollow piston provided with the packing upon its upper end, and the outer tube provided with the screw-cap, the air-hole, and the ring-cap, as hereinafter fully described.
A represents an ordinary pen, which is inserted detachably in a holder, B, in the usual way. 0 is a tube or feeder, which passes longitudinally through the holder B, and the upper end of which is flared or made funnelshaped, and is secured permanently to the upper end of the holder B. The lower end of the tube 0 is tapered, and is curved toward the pen A, and has a hole or slot formed in it,
through which the ink passes to the pen. The holder B is inserted in and fits snugly into the lower end of the inner tube or hollow piston D. The upper end of the tube D enters the outer tube or ink-reservoir E, and has a neck formed upon it to receive packing, to prevent any ink from escaping through the joint. The tubes D E are further connected .by a screw-cap, F, screwed upon the lower end of the. tube E. In the side of the upper end of the tube E is formed a small air-hole, c, to admit air to regulate the flow of the ink. Upon the upper end of the tube E is placed a ring-cap, G, which may be slipped over the air-hole e, to prevent or regulate the entrance of air.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent An improved fountain-pen, formed by the combination of the tube or feeder O with the holder B, the inner tube or hollow piston D,
provided with packing upon its upper end, and the outer tube E, provided with the screw-cap F, the air-hole e, and the ring-cap G, substantially as herein shown and described.
. PHILIP GOEHRING.
