Turner Meaker Primary Examiner-Char1es F. Roscnbaum Attorneys-Dean Laurence and John L. White ABSTRACT: The invention relates to an independent, nonpermeable trousers shield which is contoured to fit the crotch area of trousers and is adapted to be attached to the waistband, crotch seam and leg inseams of the trousers. The shield is easily attached to the inside of trousers and is easily removable for cleaning.
Patented Sept. 8, 1970 4 MARY c; JUNE ATTORNEY 'rnoussns SHIELD This invention relates to improvements in sanitary trousers shields and has particular reference to a contoured shield of the type described to fit inside a mans trousers at the crotch section.
With the increasing prevalence of diabetes and increasing consumption of alcoholic liquors, some men are unable to control their urinary secretions and excretions. When this happens, the cloth of the trousers in the area of the trousers legs and crotch becomes discolored and stained. Such stains cannot be readily removed by dry cleaning and eventually the garment becomes permanently stained, thus ruining the garment for wearing. in addition to urine, other secretions may cause staining difficult to remove.
it is an object ofthis invention to provide a sanitary trousers shield to tit inside a mans trousers at the crotch section which will prevent staining and discoloring of the trousers cloth by the various body secretions.
it is another object of this invention to provide a contoured trousers shield which fits inside a mans trousers at the crotch section, and which gives a radius of coverage in all directions.
It is another object of this invention to provide a nonpermeablc trousers shield, being an independent unit, com prised of two sections brought together in a curved center seam, which is adjustable and which conforms to standard trouser tailoring at the crotch section.
It is a further object of this invention to provide a trousers shield having a fullness of material being localized in the area where give is needed to allow for body actions and different bodily positions.
These and other advantages will become apparent from the following description and accompanying drawings which are illustrative of the manner by which the invention may be carricd into effect.
in the drawing:
PM. i is a plan view of the trousers shield of this invention, and also shows the two sections thereof in phantom be fore being joined together;
H0. 2 is a sectional side view of thc trousers shield taken along line 2-2 ofFlG. 1; and
HQ 3 is a perspective view of the trousers shield of FIG. 1 in position within a pair of trousers.
Referring to F163. 1 and 2, the numeral denotes generally the trousers shield of the invention, which is formed of two arcuate sections 11 and 12, which are each flat pieces prior to being sewn together. Thus, section 11 has sides l4 and l5, and arcuate sides 13 and 16. The arcuate side 16 is shown in phantom in FIG. 1, as it would appear prior to being sewn to section l2. Similarly, section 12 has sides 17 and 18, and arcnate sides 19 and 20. The two arcuate sides 16 and 20 of sections ill and 12, respectively, are stitched together and form a seam ill. The seam formed, as shown in FIG. 2, is curved and with the adjacent portions or" sections 11 and 12 forms a contoured area which is concave and thereby conforms generally to the crotch area of the trousers and is adapted to follow standard trouser front patterns.
The upper portion of the shield has a V'portion formed by sides 14 and i7. The lower portion of the shield has an inverted V-portion formed by sides and 18. The shield fastens to the inside of the trousers by suitable means such as hooks, pins, snaps, or thc like (not shown).
The upper portion of the shield has tapes 28 and 29 connected to corners 22 and 24, respectively, which are attachable to the inner front waistband of the trousers and serve as ble means near the rear portion of the crotch seam which intersects with the inseams of each trouser leg. Side 15 is placed along the inseam of the left trouser leg and corner 25 is attached by suitable means to the inseam. Similarly, side 18 is placed along the inseam of the right trouser leg and corner 27 is attached by suitable means to the inseam.
Normally, the seam 21 of the shield will be about four inches in length. and the sides 14, 15, 17 and 18 will be about five inches in length. The curved sides 13 and 19 are each about 10 inches in length.
Manifestly, the trousers shield of the invention is an independent protective shield which is easily placed in position and attached within a pair of trousers, and is easily removed for cleaning. The shield is contoured to fit the crotch area of trousers and there is a fullness of material localized at the area needed for protection and coverage in all directions, and also where give" is needed to allow for the various body actions and positions. The construction of the shield is adapted to follow standard trouser front patterns, and has the advantages of adjustability as to height of the wearer and non-interference with the zipper placket.
The shield is constructed of a sanitary, not non-permeable, waterproof material on one side and a smooth surface on the other. It may be a rubberized material having a side which is comprised of a smooth fabric such as silk which is placed towards the wearers body.
Having thus described an embodiment of the invention, it is to be understood that the trousers shield is susceptible of further modifications and that the embodiment disclosed is descriptive and not to be construed as limiting the scope of the invention.
l claim:
1. A sanitary trousers shield of non-pervious material which gives a radius of protection in all directions, adapted to be separably secured to the inner surface of the crotch portion and upper front portion ofa pair of trousers, comprising a pair of symmetrical sections, each section having opposed arcuate sides, said sections joined together along an arcuate side of each section forming a curved center seam, said seam and adjacent areas of said sections forming a contoured area, the lower portion of each section having a straight side which intersects the lower end of said center seam forming an inverted V-portion, said shield being concave and thereby conforming generally to follow standard trouser front patterns and the inside crotch area of trousers between the bottom of the zipper placket and the rear portion of the crotch seam which intersects with the inseams of each trouser leg, and being detachably engaged thereto, whereby said center seam is detachably attached to the crotch seam, said inverted V-portion is detachably attached to the inseams of each trouser leg, and said sections have upper straight sides which intersect with the upper end of said center seam forming a V-portion with adjustable tapes secured to the outer corners of said V- portion adapted to detachably and adjustably engage the waistband of trousers to support said shield.
2. The trousers shield of claim 1 wherein said shield is a non-permeable waterproof material.
3. The trousers shield of claim 1 wherein said shield is a rubberized material having a smooth fabric surface on one side.
