Description

(N0 Mode 1.) I
W. H. FESLER.
MUSIC LEAF TURNER.
No. 352,310. Patented Nov. 9, 1886.
I I 6 M14 WITNESS gi v ///%%M wa /4 ATTORNEYS.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
WILLIAM HENRY FESLER, OF GOLUMBIANA, OHIO.
MUSIC-LEAFWTULRNER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 352,310, datedNovember 9, 1886.
Application filed July 24, 1886. Serial No. 209.020. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WILLIAM HENRY Fns- LER, of Oolumbiana, in the county of Columbiana and State of Ohio, have invented a new and Improved Music-Leaf Turner, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the annexed drawings, forming a part thereof, in which Figure l is a front elevation of my improved leaf-turner. Fig. 2 is a vertical transverse section taken on line 00 m in Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is an inverted plan view withthe bottom removed, and Fig. at shows the application of the sheetturner.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in the different figures of the drawings.
The object of my invention is to provide a simple and efficient device for quickly turning the leaves of music or musicbooks, or for turning single sheets of music.
My invention consists in the construction and arrangement of parts, as will be herein after fully described and claimed.
The base A is made of two parts, a b, the part a being recessed to form a chamber, 0. In the base is journaled a vertical rock-shaft, D, upon which and within the chambercis placed a pinion, c. In the chamber 0 is pivoted a le ver, E, carrying on its inner and shorter end the toothed sector f, and at its outer end the finger-piece g. The toothed sector f engages the pinion 0, so that when the lever E is swung on its pivot the shaft D will be turned. The upper end of the rock-shaft D is squared, to receive a socket, D, and in the upper end of the said socket is inserted a pair of wires, h h, which extend upward parallel with each other for about half their length, and are then bent outward at right angles with the axis of the socket. I
Behind the roek-shaft D, and at one side thereof, a square stud, B, is inserted in the base A, and to the stud B is fitted a socket, B, carrying at its upper end a cross-bar, 0, upon the ends of which are secured wire forks d, which extend upward and receive between their arms a sheet of music.
Vhcn the instrument is to be used in connection with a book, the socket B is removed,
and the leaf of the book to be turned is received between the wires h h, and the turning is effected by swinging the key-lever E in one direction orthe other, according to the require ments.
\Vhen a sheet of music is to be turned so as to show op positesides, the socket D is removed from the rock-shaft D and replaced by the socket B, which carries between its forks cl the sheet of music. If desirable, the socket B may remain upon the stud B, and may be used for holding a sheet of music which does not require turning, and a leaf may be inserted between the wires h h and turned in front of the sheet supported by the forks (1'.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is i 1. In a musie-leaf turner, the combination, with the base-piece having a chamber, a vertical rock-shaft projecting through the top of the base, a pinion on said shaft within the chamber, and a pivoted finger-piece having a toothed segment on its inner end engaging the said pinion, of the removable socket on the outer end of the rock-shaft and parallel anglewires on said socket, substantially as set forth.
2. Amusic-leaf turner and holder com-prising a vertical rock-shaft and its operating fingerpiece, the removable socket on the upper end of the said shaft, the angle-wires projecting from said socket, the post, the vertical removable soeket thereon, the transverse bar at the upper end thereof, and holding-arms at opposite ends of said bar, substantially as set forth.
3. In a music-leaf turner, the combination of the base-pieee A, provided with the chamher 0, the rock-shaft D, the pinion 6, carried thereby, the socket D, fitted to the rock-shaft, and parallel angled wires h h, carried thereby,
the key-lever E, provided with the toothed sector f and finger-piece g, and the sheet-music holder formed of the socket B, the cross-bar O, and wire forks d, substantiallyas shown and described.
WILLIAM HENRY FESLER. W'itnesses:
I. H. Scnonrrz,
J OHN G. AUGUSTINE.
