UNITED STATES PATENT EroE.
DENNIS J. DALEY, OF PITTSBURG, PENNSYLVANIA.
FOLDlNG FlRE-FENDER.
SPECIPICATIQNiorming part of Letters Patent No. 352,302, dated November 9, 1886.
Application filed April 14, 1886. Serial No. 198,870. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, DENNIs J. DALEY, a citizen of Canada, residing at Pittsburg, in the county of Allegheny and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Folding Fire-Fenders; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of theinvention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it pertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which form a part of this speci-" 'fication.
My invention is an improvement in folding fireplaces, which improvement will be fully understood from the following description and claim, when taken in connection with. the annexed drawings, in whioh- Figure 1 is afront elevation of my improve folding firefender constructed in accordance with my invention. Fig.2 is an end elevation of the same. Fig. 3 is an end elevation showing the fender folded above the fire-pl ace. Fig. 4 is a plan view of the top of the fender.
Fig. 5 is a diagram of the several movable parts of the fender to illustrate the operation of folding the same. Fig. 6 is an enlarged view of one of the joints.
To put my invention into practice Iprovide a narrow wire screen, a, of suitable length, andpermanently secure the same above the fire-place, and having attached thereto about the edges a number of wire loops, b, which serve to hinge the same to other parts of the I now con- These divided sections h 6 may be opened, for 1 the purpose of communicating with the fireplace, wirhout disturbing the other or main portion of the fender. When it is desired to fold the fender, the two vertical rods g at the front and corners are withdrawn.
By referring to Fig. 5 on the drawings it will be seen that the small side sections, d d", may be folded together and placed on the top section, 6, without separation. The front sectionsare now folded in the same manner, and the whole swung to aperpendicularposition above the fire-place, as shown in Fig. 3 on the drawings.
Having thus described my. invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters 'Patcut, is
The within-described folding fender, com-,
prising the horizontal screen a, secured to the mantel above the fire-place and provided with loops b, adapted to serve as hinges, the vertical side screens, 0 0, also provided with wire loops, the top horizontal screen, 6, formed of two jointed sections, provided at the joint with catches f, and a rod, g, attached to the screen a, the folding sides d cl d and folding front sections, it h h", said parts being connected by loops and rods, and all constructed and adapted to be folded and swung to a position above the fire-place,substantially as described.
