To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, AUoUs'rm on F1- nanon, a citizen of the French Republic, residing at Paris, France, have invented a 5 new and useful Apparatus for Preventing Fires in Chimneys, of which the following is a specification.
The present invention is based upon the property which metal tissues or fabrics possess of preventing a flame from passing through said fabric.
The invention is adapted to be applied to a chimney for preventing the flame from the stove from passing up through the chimney and in addition serves the function of preventing sparks, light objects such as paper, etc., thrown into the fire from passing up through the chimney.
In the accompanying drawing the invention is shown byway of example.
Figure 1 is a perspective view of the apparatus, the two fabrics being shown drawn to the outer extremity of the frame. Fig. 2
is a view similar to that of Fig. 1, the upper fabric being shown as folded into open position.
The apparatus consists of 'a metal casing a provided with grooves b in which slide the two fabrics or wire nettings c 0 disposed at suitable distance from each other. These two nettings are connected by means of a plate (Z provided with a sultable handle, so
that the nettings can be moved in and out of the casing. The plate (Z consists of two parts hinged to each other by means of joints 0, 6. By this arrangement it is possible to turn one of the nettings up or down respectively so as to be able to clean the other which rests in its horizontal position. The cleaning process can thus be effected in a most perfect manner.
The apparatus is fixed within the chimney at a suitable height. It is suspended by hooks to draw it to the front for cleaning purposes. At the front the apparatus is suspended on chains which arrangement allows a certain movement having for its aim the facilitating of the cleaning. It is evident that the apparatus may be provided with several nettings or fabrics.
I claim An apparatus for preventing fires in chimneys, comprising in combination a casing provided with grooves and destined to be fixed within the chimney, two or more wire nettings or fabrics adapted to slide within said grooves, a plate adapted to connect said nettings or fabrics, substantially as described and for the purpose set forth.
