EEEGTEIG sAEETY ATTACHMENT EOE STEAM EoILEEs. No. 352,203. Patented Nov. 9, 1886.
UNITED STATES PATENT OEEIcE.
ROBERT REIOHLING, OF BERNBURG, PRUSSIA, GERMANY.
ELECTRIC SAFETY ATTACHMENT FOR STEAM-BOILERS.
l SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 352,203, dated November 9, 1886. Application filed March 1l, i886. Serial No. 194,806. (No model.) Patented in Germany February 10, i885, No. 32,552.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ROBERT REICHLTNG, of Bernburg, Germany, have invented a new and Improved Electric Safety Attachment for SteanrBoilers, (for which a patent has been granted in Germany', No. 32,552, February 10, 1885,) of which the following specilication is a full, clear, and exact description.
This invention relates to an electric attachment for steam-boilers, by means of which an alarm is sounded whenever the water within the boiler reaches its minimum safety height.
The invention consists in the elements of in1- provenient hereinafter more fully pointed out.
The accompanying drawing represents a longitudinal central section, partly in side view, of my improved safety attachment.
The letter c represents a tube, which reaches down to the plane of the lowest water-line desired wit-hin the boiler. The upper end ofthe tube c is screwed into the lower cnd of a valvecase, b, having upright ribs d, that constitute guides for a cup-shaped valve, c. The'valve c carries a central isolated plate, r, and is provided with a ring, f, of easily-fusible metal. Upon the ring j" there is supported a case, g, held down by a nut, h, thatsurrounds the upper part of case b. ln place of ring fthe space within the ribs d may be Jrilled up with a readily-fusible material. The case g carries the isolated plate z', which is provided with the two pole ends n and p of an electric battery. The outer ringe', of the valve c is placed beneath an abutment, b', of valvecase b, and thus a space, d', is formed between valve and valvecase.
The water being at a proper level within the boiler, fills or partly fills tube a. lVhen the watea'however, falls beneath the mouth of the tube, steam is free to enter the same. The steam will melt ringfand lift valve c, thus establishing contact between plate r and pole ends n p, to sound an alarm. The space d is at the same time closed.
To introduce a new ring, f, the nut h and case g are removed, the valve c is cleaned, and, after the ring has been put in position, the parts are reapplied. L
I claim as my inventionl. The combination of valvecase b and valve c, having isolated plate r, with the fusible ring f, and with the case g, having poles n p, and secured to valve-case Z), substantially as speci lied.
2. The combination of valve-case b and valve c, having plate r, with fusible ringf, case g,
poles n p, and nut l1., all being so constructed that a space, cl', is formed between the valvecase and the upper end of the valve, substantially as specified.
In testimony whereof l have signed my name to this specification in thepresenee of two subscribing witnesses.
R. RETOHLING.
