ALARM, SIGNALING, AND CONTROLLING DEVICE.

This invention relates in general to alarm,
' signaling and controlling devices, and in particular to the combinatiomwith such devices, of a. vibration contact, as is more fully T described hereinafter.
This application is a division of application NO. 655,163, filed Oct. 17th, 1911.

As soon as a vibration is produced, the needle 38 which is secured to an elastically suspended weight 161, will intermittently move away from the interior wall of ring 39. In consequence thereof the cur rent flow ng through line 40 will be intermittently interrupted. The interruption of the current may be utilized to deenergize a closed circuit relay, thereby allowing its armature to drop, which in turn may control an alarm device in any well known manner. It shall be hereinafter described how this is effected accordin' to the present invention. The needle 38wi 1 be generally resting elastically against-the inside wall of ring 39. This ring 39 can be horizontally displaced by means of a rod 41 adjustable in a stand 42, so that the needle 38 will bear more or less tightly against the inner side of ring 39;

quickly to any vibrations, the more lightly it is pressed against the inside of the ring; By displacingthe rod 41 in the stand 42 the sensitiveness of the device may be regulated at will. The. box 36 is now simply placed on an article to be guarded, say on a safe. If it is now attempted to forcibly open the safe the vibrations caused thereby will be transmitted to the box and cause the needle i 8 todvlbrate, whereby t e alarm will be reease fWhereas in Fig. 1 the alarnris actuated by the breaking of a closed circuit, the provision is made in Fig. 2, that the needle 38 will on vibrating not only leave the ring 39 but also come in contact with a small disk 162, and thus intermittently close a line 165. By the intermittent closingof the circuit 165 a continuous bell signal arranged at another point will be operated, as this is also employed with the hereinafter controlling device. The present vibration contact device is a particularly accurately acting one and this is the consequence of the fact, that the elastically suspended weight 161 will vibrate but slightly under the influence of slight vibrations, but that these vibrations of the weight will be greatly amplified by the length of the needle 38. It must be further seen that the mass of the needle 38 should be but very small with regard to the mass of the weight 161.
Having now described my invention what I desire to secure by a Patent of the United States is:
