CIRCUIT-CLOSER FOR ALARMS.

To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, FRANK A. SCHULTZ, a citizen of the United States, residing at VVilkes-Barre, in the county of Luzerne and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Circuit- Closers for Alarms, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to circuit closers for electric burglar alarm circuits and has for its object the provision of an improved construction of circuit closing device consisting of the usual construction of electro-magnet in which the circuit is controlled by the points to be protected and an armature slidably mounted under the influence of coil springs to close the alarm circuit when the magnet circuit is broken.
My invention will be described in detail hereinafter and illustrated in the accompanying drawing which is a plan view of my improved circuit closer showing the magnet circuit and alarm circuit diagrammatically.
In the drawing 1 indicates a base having the supports 2 and 2 mounted thereon, and between which are mounted rods 3 by means of thumb screws 4t secured through said uprights, 5 indicates magnet coils having their windings connected by means of wires 6 with the points to be protected from burglars, 7 indicating the battery in the circuit comprising coils 5 and wires 6 to energize said coils when the circuit is closed.
8 indicates the alarm, which is conveniently shown to be a bell, and 9 shows wires connecting the alarm with one of the screws 4: and a contact button 10, mounted on the support 2 said button being insulated from support 2 by means of a ring or rings 11 of insulating material.
12 indicates a battery in the alarm circuit for sounding the alarm when the circuit is closed.
13 indicates an armature consisting of a plate or bar slidably mounted on rods 3 actuated by coil springs 14 mounted 011 said rods, and bearing against support 2 and the ends of the bar 13.
15 indicates a rod secured to the bar 13 by means of a thumb screw 16, said rod being slidably mounted in support 2 and the thumb screw 16 positioned to engage contact button 10 when the magnet circuit is broken, and thus closing the alarm circuit through the contact button 10, thumb-screw 16, bar 13 and its supporting frame, wires 9 and battery 12.
In practice the springs 14c may be made of suflicient tensile strength to withstand the attraction of the magnet coils 5, when the alarm circuit is closed thereby, so that the magnet circuit can be closed only by manually returning the bar 13 into engagement with the coils of the magnet, or, if desired, the springs may be weak enough to be incapable of overcoming the attraction of the magnet so that should the magnet circuit be reclosed after being broken, the armature bar 13 will be attracted by the magnet and open the alarm circuit.
Having thus described my invention what I claim is I 1. In a circuit closer for electric alarm cir cuits, a base, standards mounted on the base, rods secured to said standards, a contact button secured to one of the standards and insulated therefrom, an open alarm circuitconnected to said contact button and one of the rods aforesaid, magnet coils mounted on the other standard, an armature plate slidably mounted on the rods, and coil springs mounted on the rods and engaging said armature plate said springs normally tending to actuate the armature plate into engage- S5 ment with the contact button to close the alarm circuit.
2. In a circuit closer for electric alarm circuits, a base, standards mounted on the base, rods secured to said standards, a contact button secured to one of the standards and insulated therefrom, an open alarm circuit connected to said contact button and one of the rods aforesaid, magnet coils mounted on the other standard, an armature plate slidably mounted on said rods, a rod secured to said armature plate and slidably mounted in the last mentioned standard between the magnet coils, and coil springs mounted on the rods and engaging said armature plate, said springs normally tending to actuate the armature plate into engagement with the contact button to close the alarm circuit.
