EXTENSION TABLE SLIDE. No. 352,114. Patented Nov. 9, 18 86 A J I A WITNESSES: INZBNTOR HM A BY I ATTORNEY;
N4 PETERS. Phalu-Lilho n hw, wasnin mn, QC.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
TRUMAN G. BUGBEE, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS.
EXTENSION-TABLE SLIDE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No.352,114, dated November 9, 1886.
, Application filed J une 1886.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, TRUMAN G. BUGBEE, of
Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Extension-Table Slides, which improvements are fully set forth in the following specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings. J Extension-table slidesas now made have a tendency to'bind when, by dampness, the woo-d is expanded,and to become loose and ill-fitting when the wood is contracted in drying. To counteract this tendency is the object of my invention.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a vertical side view of a set of extension table slides with my improvements. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal vertical sectional view of the same, partly through the center and partly on a line of the outer surface. Fig. 3 is a cross-sectional view of the same on the line 00 m, Fig. 2. Fig. 4 is an end view of said slides with the tongues not shown.
Similar letters refer to similar parts throughout the drawings.
A A A are the slides proper, which are grooved in the usual dovetailed manner with grooves B B B.
C G C are tongues double-dovetailed in form, secured in the ends of the respective grooves to serve as stops and guides for the slides.
In the outer sides of each of the slides recesses G G G are cut to any desired depth and form, in which arefitted springs F F F. Those shown are of metal; but they may be made of soft rubber or any other suitable elastic material. If made of rubber, the springs should extend to the bottom of their respective recesses. Through the middle of each of said springs a set-screw, E, extends through the slide proper and into the tongues D D D, to hold said tongues in place and render them adjustable. The said tongues are made a little smaller than the grooves in which they are to slide, allowing the tongue to move freely within such groove, and to be adjusted in position by the turning of their respective set- Serial No. 205,722. (No model.)
purpose of adjusting the position or tightness of the tongues D D D by increasing or decreasing the tension of the springs F, through which they pass. 1 When the set-screws are in position, they compress the springs, so as to cause a greater or less constant pressure of the spring upward against the heads of the screws, thus drawing and holding the tongues D D D close to their seats in the grooves, while leaving them free to move slightly and adjust themselves toany inequalities which may be in the faces of the grooves B B B.
Having thus described my invention. what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, 1S f 1. An extension-table slide having an ad justable tongue secured thereto by'a set-screw from the outer side of the slide, so that the same may be tightened or loosened at will, substantially as described.
2. An extensiontable slide having in its outer side a recess containing a spring to be compressed by a set-screw extending through said spring and slide and into a tongue fitted in the groove of the slide, whereby said tongue is made adjustable, substantially as shown and described.
3. In an extension-table slide, the combination of the slide A, provided with the groove B in one side and the recess G in the opposite side, with the tongueD in said groove B and the spring F in said recess G, and the set-screw E, extending from the outside of said slide A through said spring and slide into the tongue D, whereby the tongue D is made elastic and adjustable, substantially as shown and described.
