Description

(No Model.)
LE ROY S. BUNKER. BOILER FOR STEAMING FOOD. No. 351,094. Patented Oct. 19, 1886.
INVENTOR WITNESSES: I
- I v 2 J ATTORNEYS.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICEQ- LE ROY S. BUNKER, O'F VALTON, IVISCONSIN.
BOILER FOR STEAMlNG FOOD.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 351,094, dated October 19, 1886.
Application filed June 29, 1886.
Serial No. 206,620. (No model.)
' Valton, in the county of Sank and the State of IVisconsin, have invented a new and Improved Boiler for Steaming Food, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
The object of my invention is'to provide a new and improved boiler which is simple in construction and is specially adapted for steaming food.
The invention consists of various parts and details and combinations of the same, as will be fully described hereinafter, and then pointed out in the claims.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, in which similar letters of reference indicate .corresponding parts in both figures.
Figure 1 is a vertical central section of my improvement, and Fig. 2 is a plan view of the base and the grate.
The boiler A is provided with a cast-iron base, B, having airannular rim, 0, over which fits the lower end of the conical shell D, provided on its upper end with a cover, E, held in place by the ring F, shrunken on the outside of the shell D, and a similar ring, F, is shrunken on the lower part of the shell D to hold the latter securely to the rim 0 of the base B. The latter is provided with radial lugs or flanges G, which extend above the rim 0, and on the top of which rest the circular grate H and the conical fire-box I, into the top of which fits a chimney, J, projecting through the cover E, and provided above the latter with the door K, through which the grate is charged with the necessary fuel.
The space in the shell D between the cover E and the fire-box I forms the water-compartment L, into which opens the upper end of a pipe, M, coiled in the fire-box I, and having its lower end connected with a smaller pipe, N, which extends to the outside of the shell D and is connected with the hand-pump O,which receives its supply of water by means of the pipe P from the water-tank Q. The pipes N and P are each provided with a stop-cock or valve, N and P, respectively.
The steam-outlet pipe R, attached to the cover E, connects the compartment Lwith the vessel containing the food to be steamed.
The hollow stem S of the safety-valve S is fitted loosely into the cover E, and the upper part, 8*, of said valve is cup-shaped, so that the valve can be weighted by means of shot and other articles to any desired extent. An aperture, S leads to the central aperture of the stem S, and connects with the outside when excessive pressure of steam in the compartment L raises the valve S.
The shell D is provided with the usual gages, T, and a draft-door, U, is placed at the lower part of the shell and opens into the base B.
The operation is as follows: The compartment L is charged with water by means of the hand-pump O, which receives its supply from the tank Q and forces the water through the coiled pipe M, which is heated by the fire on 7c the grate-bars, and which discharges the water into the compartment L. The water in the latter is also heated from the grate H, the heat being transmitted to the water by the firebox I and the chimney J. The fuel is the door K of the chimney J and falls down upon the grate H. The draft is regulated by the door U. The steam generated in the compartment L can at any time be withdrawn through the pipe It and used for various pur- 8o poses, specially for steaming food.
Having thus fully described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent 1. The combination of the outer shell, the
fire-box in the lower part of the same, and the chimney extending from the fire-box upward through the top of the shell, a wate'ncompartment being formed by said parts and having a steanrpipe leading therefrom with the coil 0 of pipe in the fire-box, one end of said pipe leading to the said water-compartment, and the opposite end extending out through the shell and connecting with a supply-pipe, substantially as set forth.
9 2. In a boiler, the combination of the comd partment L, the fire-box I, the chimney J, having the inlet-door K, the grate H, and the base B, provided with the lugs G, with the coiled pipe M, the pipes N and P, the pump 0, and
the tank Q, substantially as shown and described.
3. In a boiler, the combination of the base B, provided with the rim 0 and the lugs G, with passed into 75 the shell D, the grate H, and the fire-box I, 5. In a boiler, the combination of the watersnbstant-ially as shown and described. compartment L with the outlet-pipe R,and the 4:. In a boiler, the shell D, the cover E, the safety-valve S, provided with the hollow stem base B, having the rim 0 and the lugs G, the S, having the aperture S and the upper hol- 5 ringsF and F, and the draft-door U, in com- 10W part, S, substantially as shown and de- 15 bination with the grate H, the fire-box I, the scribed;
chimney J, opening into the said fire-box I, LE ROY S. BUNKER. and the coiled pipe M, connecting the water- VVitnesses': compartment L with a pump, substantially as T; E. DOYON.
10 shown and described. CHAS. E. VEEDER.
