Cl. 248-339 2 Claims ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A holder for conventional collapsible tubes said holder having a body having flexible, resilient fingers terminating in a lip adapted to engage the closure cap of the tube, and having means preventing relative rotation between the holder and the cap.

This invention relates to holders for collapsible tubes.

Collapsible tubes for extrudable pastes, creams, ointments and the like, as for example, tooth paste or shaving cream, are commonly provided with an internally threaded screw cap closure which engages an externally threaded neck which protrudes from the end shoulder of the tube.

Such collapsible tubes are generally cylindrical in shape and in the relatively large sizes which are now prevalent, they are awkward to store in the usual wall cabinets found in bathrooms. They are unstable if stood on end and they take up much cabinet shelf space lying down.

It is an object of the present invention to provide a holder for a collapsible tube which will engage the closure cap of the conventional type of collapsible tube, which may be easily engaged therewith, and which may be hung on any suitable support to hold the tube in upright position, and which is easy and inexpensive to manufacture.

Other objects and advantages of the invention will appear hereinafter.

Referring to the drawings, the holder comprises a frusto-conical body 1 having a sidewall or skirt 2 and a top wall 3. The top wall is provided with a hanger, such as a hook 4 by means of which the holder may be suspended from a suitable support.

The side wall 2 is provided with a plurality of slits 5 which extend upwardly from the bottom of the wall, thus dividing the wall into a plurality of flexible, resilient fingers 6. In the embodiment illustrated, there are four such slits and four such fingers. The bottom edge of each of said fingers is provided with an inwardly projecting flange or lip 7 adapted to engage the lower edge of the 3,495,797 Patented Feb. 17, 1970 "ice conventional collapsible tube cap as hereinafter explained.

The inside surface of each of said fingers is also provided with one or more vertically extending ribs 8, adapted to engage the outside Wall of the conventional collapsible tube cap. The said ribs should be shorter, i.e. protrude inwardly a lesser distance from the wall, than the lips 7.

As is well known, the closure caps 9 of conventional collapsible tubes 10 are usually frusto-conical in shape and their outside walls are usually provided with vertical ribs 11. In using the holder of this invention, the closure cap, usually While still attached to the tube, is pushed into the holder until the flanges or lips 7 of the fingers 6 snap into engagement with the lower edge of the closure cap. At the same time the internal ribs 8 of the fingers 6 engage the external ribs 11 of the closure cap to prevent relative rotation between the two. Thereafter, when it is desired to use the tube, it may be unscrewed from the closure cap without removing it from the holder, and it may thereafter likewise be screwed back into the closure cap and suspended therefrom.

It will be understood that the invention may be variously modified or embodied within the scope of the subjoined claims.

I claim:

1. A holder for a collapsible tube having a screw threaded closure cap, comprising a frusto-conical body having a side wall and a top wall, said top wall having a hanger by means of which the holder may be suspended from a suitable support, the sidewall of said holder having a plurality of slits extending upwardly from the bottom edge and dividing said wall into a plurality of flexible, resilient fingers, the bottom of each of said fingers having an inwardly projecting lip adapted to engage the bottom of said closure cap, and the inside surfaces of said fingers having inwardly projecting vertical ribs engaging said closure cap to prevent relative rotation therebetween.

2. A holder as claimed in claim 1 in which said inwardly projecting ribs project inwardly a lesser distance than said inwardly projecting lips.
